Gaming Daily: VELOCITY 2X and More Coming to LITTLE BIG PLANET 3

Happy Friday, everyone! While we’ve been getting a deluge of gaming news as of late, today was relatively quiet. But, of course, that doesn’t mean that nothing happened. Since I know you are itching to head off into the night to celebrate the weekend, we’ve compiled a small list of some of today’s news to keep you informed and up to date. In today’s Gaming Daily: Sackboy is going to be joined by several familiar indie game faces in Little Big Planet 3, the specs needed to run the Oculus Rift were revealed and they’re not that bad, and you’ll be able to play Splatoon one last time before it launches.

Don't Starve Little Big Planet 3

Four indie titles will be joining Sackboy in Little Big Planet 3

We’ve already seen several familiar faces added to Little Big Planet 3’s collection of costumes, including Jake and Finn from Adventure Time. Thankfully, the fun doesn’t stop there. Little Big Planet’s community manager Steven Isbell revealed via the PlayStation Blog that soon you’ll be able to suit up as characters from a total of four famous indies starting today.

So who will we be seeing? Well, as I’m sure you’ve already noticed the two images above, Little Big Planet 3 will be getting costume packs from Velocity 2x and Don’t Starve. If those two weren’t enough, we will also be seeing sack-like recreations of Octodad and Thomas was Alone. Check out some of the costumes below:

Oculus Rift

Oculus Rift PC requirements have been revealed.

We’ve been wondering about the Oculus Rift for quite a while now, and it seemed the general consensus about the futuristic system was that it was probably going to take a beast of a machine to be able to handle the device. To quell our worries while at the same time piquing our interest, the folks behind the VR headset took to their blog earlier today to reveal the spec requirements needed to run the game on our PCs. Check out the juicy details below:

  • NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
  • Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
  • 8GB+ RAM
  • Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
  • 2x USB 3.0 ports
  • Windows 7 SP1 or newer

On the specs they note, “The goal is for all Rift games and applications to deliver a great experience on this configuration. Ultimately, we believe this will be fundamental to VR’s success, as developers can optimize and tune their game for a known specification, consistently achieving presence and simplifying development.”

For a more detailed look at the requirements and why they decided on them, you can check out Oculus’ chief achitect Atman Binstock’s full post titled “Powering the Rift.”

Splatoon image

You’ll be able to play Splatoon before launch.

If you’ve been anticipating the release of Nintendo’s upcoming paint blasting shooter, but have yet to get your hands on the game yourself, you’ll be able to do just that right from your very own couch next week. Nintendo revealed that it will be hosting another Global Testfire next week, allowing players around the globe the option to try the vibrant game one last time ahead of launch.

Starting Saturday May 23, at 3 p.m. PST you’ll have a whole hour to try out the game which is set to release a few days later on May 29. Just like last week’s test, all you’ll have to do is download it from the e-shop. It would be a perfect time to grab a couple of friends and head online for some colorful fun.

Also, don’t forget to check out the rest of our Splatoon coverage, including our impressions piece from our time at Wondercon!
