The smell of Comic-con is in the air, and laced with the blissfulness of exciting Star Wars news. It’s that lovely time of the year! Some of you are packing and preparing to make your way into San Diego for this week’s festivities, so we’re going to get you up to speed on the video game business with haste. In today’s Gaming Daily: beta access will be granted to Street Fighter V this month, a brand new character is introduced in OverWatch, and The Game Critics Awards honor the best of this year’s E3.
Street Fighter V beta coming this month
Street Fighter fans rejoice! Capcom will be conducting a beta test this month to test out Street Fighter V‘s online functionality and matchmaking. Finally, folks at home will get to take the game for a spin, and see why Unreal Engine 4 looks great on Capcom fighters. Since the beta is specifically for stress testing servers, there will be no local mode included, so no epic SFV couch battles are inbound anytime soon.
The folks with immediate access to the beta â which starts on July 23rd â will get their hands on Ryu, Chun-Li, M. Bison, and Nash (Charlie). On July 25th, Cammy and Birdie will be added into the rotation, bringing the character count up to six. Capcom has stated that the two-character delay was intentionally done, and serves as a way for the developer to test the game’s new content delivery infrastructure. Anything that will make the game’s net-code better than its predecessors is fine by me. Please, no repeats of the PS4 version of Ultra Street Fighter IV. Sign up for the beta right here to get in on the action.

The best of E3 honored in Game Critics Awards
The gavel is down and the judges have ruled! The Game Critics Award winners were announced today and Fallout 4 came out as the most acclaimed title of E3 2015. Sony walked away with an ass ton of awards as well, with Uncharted 4, No Man’s Sky, and Horizon: Zero Dawn. You can view the complete list of this year’s winners, as our thoughts on the judges’ choices right here.
A new character is introduced in OverWatch
Introducing Soldier 76: a gritty war veteran whose combat expertise is rivaled only by his high-powered arsenal. Once the leader of the OverWatch program, he now operates in the shadows, fighting as a vigilante to maintain justice around the world. Sure, his origin story may sound familiar towards the end there, but Mr.76 appears to be a welcomed addition to the OverWatch cast. Watch him in action in the videos below:
OverWatch is Blizzard’s upcoming team-based shooter. I ranted about the game a bit after playing it at PAX East last March, and fully believe that this game will fill the void left by the absence of a new Team Fortress title. The alpha for the game is set to hit the PC platform this fall.
