Gaming Daily: RED DEAD REDEMPTION No Longer Playable on Xbox One

After a pretty dull Super Bowl Sunday, Monday’s gaming news drought was tough to handle. But, as always, we found a few updates worth highlighting. In today’s Gaming Daily, Red Dead Redemption‘s brief Xbox One release was actually an accident, the Titanfall sequel is going to include a single-player campaign, a Silent Hills-eque game called Visage hit its funding goal on Kickstarter, Dark Souls 3‘s opening cinematic gives fans a closer look at the game’s plot, and we compiled a list of review scores for Unravel.

Red Dead

Red Dead Redemption‘s Xbox One release was an “error.”

Welp, we knew it was too good to be true. Over the weekend, Rockstar San Diego’s western-themed game, Red Dead Redemption, was available for download on the Xbox One–albeit through somewhat sketchy means (the game wasn’t searchable, but could be found via looking up a NeoGAF user’s Gamertag). Unsurprisingly, Microsoft addressed the issue earlier today, revealing that the release was an “error.”

“Microsoft tests all Xbox 360 games with our [backwards compatibility] emulator to ensure a quality experience across a breadth of titles,” Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb said on Reddit. “Due to an error, some of the games currently in test were accidentally made available. We have since removed access to those games, and apologize for any confusion this may have caused. We will have more information on upcoming releases soon.”

Though the game has been removed, those who were able to download it are still able to play the campaign in offline mode. However, the game saves are reportedly unavailable offline, so there’s really no point in playing it, aside from looking at how well it performs on the system. Considering its popularity and the fact that the game is being tested on the Xbox One, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it join the rest of the currently backwards compatible games in the future.  Microsoft is currently in talks with Rockstar about bringing it to the system, so anything’s possible.

TITANFALL-FANART-FEATURED-03122015

The Titanfall sequel will have a campaign.

When Respawn confirmed (last year) that Titanfall‘s sequel would be hitting several platforms, things certainly seemed to be taking a turn for the better. Today, the developer brought even more promising news to the table, by confirming that the title would also feature a single-player campaign. The news was revealed by the game’s lead writer, Jesse Stern. There is also a tv spinoff reportedly in the works, so there’s certainly a lot to look forward to.

Silent Hills-esque game, Visage, hits funding goal on Kickstarter.

Not a day goes by that we don’t think about the cancellation of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro’s Silent Hills (a.k.a. P.T.). Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but it was rather unfortunate, and we’ve been looking to fill the P.T.-shaped hole in our lives ever since. Over the course of the past year, there’ve been a few contenders, with SadSquare Studio’s Visage, which recently hit Kickstarter, being the latest. Check the early alpha footage above and see for yourself.

According to the campaign page, the game takes place in a secluded town in the 1980’s. Similar to most haunted house flicks, the house you’ll endlessly wander, is “centuries old,” and has been host to dozens of families that have “died brutally.” It is classified as a psychological horror game, which the developer claims is not “the typical jump-scare fest” that’s been popular for years.

If the first game that came to mind as you watched was Silent Hills, that’s because SadSquare cites it as one of the inspirations behind the title, and plans on implementing the “real-life horror simulator” from P.T., and expanding upon it. Phantasmagoria and Penumbra are also mentioned as influences.

Dark Souls 3 opening cinematic gives players a taste of what’s to come.

If you’re as excited for Dark Souls as we are, you’re going to love this next one. Bandai Namco released the upcoming game’s (which is due out April 12th) opening cinematic. Like the previous entries, the narrator gives a vague explanation of the path you’ll be trekking. Unlike the first two games, you’ll be playing as what they are referring to as an “Unkindled,” which by the sound of the clip, might be a heretic of some sort. It also heavily features ash, just as previous promos have. We’re definitely excited to learn how the supposed final Souls game will wrap up the story.
