Gaming Daily: Q*BERT is Hopping His Way Over to PlayStation Consoles, Bloodborne Will Have Shields

What’s that? You didn’t catch anything after hearing about the live-action Legend of Zelda series that Nintendo and Netflix are working on? In addition to that and the new Mortal Kombat X players we already reported on today, we’ve pulled together a couple of stories you may have missed. In today’s Gaming Daily, Q*Bert is hopping on over to PlayStation consoles, Techland apparently put a Super Mario Bros. easter egg in Dying Light, and shields have been confirmed for Bloodborne. Well don’t just stand there. Let’s dig in!

Q*Bert: Rebooted is coming to your PlayStation systems.

Remember the popular arcade game Q*Bert? The Gottlieb classic that took the world by storm and became one of the most recognizable brands back in the 80’s is back and will be playable on your PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Vita come February 17.

If that wasn’t enough, you’ll also get to play Q*Bert Rebooted, which was recently released on PC and mobile devices. LOOT Entertainment’s project manager Jason Sorenson took to the PlayStation Blog to explain more.

“Instead of cubes, Q*Bert Rebooted features hexagons. That may not sound like a game-changer, but it is; suddenly, you get some really interesting level designs, especially later in the game. In addition, there are new features, such as time and score challenges, new enemies with their own unique behaviors, new playable characters, power-ups, traps, and gem-collecting. Q*Bert Rebooted is the equivalent of your old backyard treehouse refurbished by Bob Vila: same nostalgic joy, but magically just better.”

Super Mario Bros. Easter Egg in Dying Light!

Thanks to a post over on Push Square today, we came across this awesome video featuring a super cool Super Mario level in Dying Light. After seeing the Techland reference the Destiny loot cave, this reference comes as no surprise.

In the video, YouTube user Arekkz Gaming explains that to find this particular easter egg, you’ll need to be at least half way through the game. Once you’re able to travel through the sewers to old town you will be able to pull up your map and travel to a particular rooftop in the southwest corner of the map. Once there, you’ll come across a chimney with a familiar green pipe inside!

If the green pipe wasn’t enough, you are able to interact with it and dive deep within to find Super Mario World 1-1 within. The level features tiny shrunken zombies as goombas and several green pipes and blocks to jump over. The coolest part about this is that sliding down the pole at the end will score you some survivor points. Cool!

Bloodborne shieldless

Bloodborne will have shields, but you probably won’t want to use them.

This interesting bit of information came courtesy of an IGN interview with Sony’s Japan Studio producer Masaaki Yamagiwa. The producer elaborated that while there will be shields in the game, standing back and guarding won’t do you much good.

While the Dark Souls games FromSoftware is known for rely HEAVILY on shields (unless you’re skilled at parries and dodge-rolls), this news makes us all the more excited for a game that will potentially be faster paced and more difficult than the souls series.

Masaaki Yamagiwa explained the choice, “We wanted to encourage players to not hide and wait, but instead be more aggressive and pro-active in battle.”

Bloodborne is set to release on PS4 March 24, 2015.
