Gaming Daily: PlayStation VR Sold Out in 10 Minutes in the UK

Consumer interest in virtual reality is at an all-time-high thanks to HTC, Sony, and Oculus recently revealing how much their individual headsets will cost. As a result, virtual reality has dominated the headlines, and well, today is no different. So let’s just jump right into it, shall we? In today’s Gaming Daily: PlayStation VR pre-orders sold out in less than 10 minutes on Amazon UK, there will be 30 Oculus Rift launch titles, check out four of Doom‘s nine multiplayer maps, and a Bloodborne tabletop game is in the works.

PlayStation VR sold out within 10 minutes in the UK

With the recent announcement of the PlayStation VR’s $400 price tag and October launch window, many are wondering just how well this headset will do once it’s available for purchase. Well, if the UK is any indication, this is going to be a hot piece of tech. The Amazon UK pre-order stock was sold out in less than 10 minutes. Since then, the online retailer has re-opened pre-orders, but there’s no promise that those who purchased it will get it on day one. Sony must be pleased.

This is only one shop we’re talking about, but it is telling that interest is high in Sony’s VR venture. Many are starting to predict that the PS VR will be able to dominate the market thanks to the somewhat affordable price. Just for reference, the HTC Vive is $799, and the Oculus Rift is $599.

Welcome to the year of virtual reality, folks!

Oculus Rift will launch with 30 games

Oculus has announced that an astounding 30 VR games will be available for purchase when the Rift launches on March 28. The price range for the games runs between $4.99 and $59.99. Though nothing on the list is surprising, there is an interesting comfort-rating system now included, with each game rated from comfortable, intermediate, to intense. It’s a great way to make sure you know what type of experience you’re purchasing. Several other games–including Rockband VR–were revealed with no release date. Finally, Oculus promised that over 100 games will be available by the end of the year. Check out the full list of titles here.

Check out four Doom multiplayer maps

Bethesda released a new clip featuring four of the nine maps that will be available once DOOM launches, and the battle arenas are looking dope. Though unique from one another, the maps share some similarities. First, you’ll need to keep moving (at least according to Bethesda), because they’re built in such a way to make a match incredibly fast-paced. Each arena also has hazards and items scattered throughout, so that the tide of battle can quickly turn. There are even secrets in these maps, however, finding them won’t yield hiding spots. Here’s the rest of the information shared:

  • Some maps include one- or two-way teleporters. Both humans and demons can use these, but weapon-fire can’t be teleported. (So don’t get cute and try to shoot rockets through a teleporter!)
  • Need to leap to the top of a level? Look for a bounce pad. Both humans and demons can use these to quickly ascend to new heights.
  • Like any good multiplayer map, you’ll find both explosive barrels and hazard canisters throughout. The former does exactly what you expect; the latter not only explodes but leaves behind hazardous slime – which, for a limited time, will continue to deliver damage to anyone unlucky enough to run through the glowing green muck.
  • Speaking of green muck, some levels are surrounded by radioactive slime, which will harm humans. Fire will also deal damage to humans, as will energy/plasma (with the potential here for an instant kill, depending on the severity of the hazard). Demons are immune to all three of these hazards.
  • And, as always, avoid lava and pits of death. Both are instant kills for humans and demons.

And finally, the list of all the maps:

  • Helix
  • Disposal
  • Chasm
  • Infernal
  • Beneath
  • Perdition
  • Excavation
  • Heatwave
  • Sacrilegious

In short, Doom is looking good. This is exactly the kind of multiplayer madness long-time fans have been waiting for.

BLOODBORNE IMAGE 04152015

Bloodborne tabletop game incoming

Holy Yharnam! A Bloodborne tabletop game is incoming. Praise the (blood) moon! Tabletop game creator Eric Lang and publisher Cool Mini Or Not have announced a collaboration to create an officially liscenced Bloodborne card game. Details are scarce at the moment, and we don’t have a release window yet. But still, yay! Check out Lang’s tweet.

He does mention that it’ll be based on the Chalice Dungeons from the game, and a play session will last about 30 minutes. This isn’t the first time Lang has brought a video game into the tabletop realm (he previously brought XCOM 2 over), so I’m positive this project will work out. I mean, as long as it’s not as difficult as the actual video game, right? We’ll keep you updated on any further news.
