Gaming Daily: New FALLOUT 4 Details Revealed During QuakeCon

Here we are again. Another grueling work (or school) week has come and gone, and we’re finally ready to start the weekend. Despite the fact that the highly anticipated Street Fighter V beta was taken down immediately after yesterday’s launch, you’ll still be able to spend the weekend having the adventure of a lifetime in Journey, tearing through levels as Tembo the Badass Elephant, or even perhaps still being the Batman in Arkham Knight. Before you do that however, I’m here to keep you informed and up to date on some of today’s gaming news.

In today’s Gaming Daily, Fallout 4 gets more details during Quake Con, some guy got Half-Life running on a smart watch, Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro are still working together, Fallout Shelter is finally releasing on Android devices, and Team Nerdist went head to head to head in laser tag with Battleborn characters.

Preston Garvey Fallout 4

New Fallout 4 details revealed during Quake Con.

And the Bethesda news just keeps coming! As was already expected, we learned more about Fallout 4 during QuakeCon today. Unfortunately, we weren’t in the audience to see it, but we’ve rounded up some of the biggest news from around the web.

In addition to a new demo, Bethesda revealed that Dog Meat, yes the adorable dog in the trailer, is actually based on the lead designer’s dog. In order to get the most realistic representation of a dog, the team behind the game filmed the real-life pooch doing loads of different things. We already knew you were going to be able to give commands, but today noted that sending Dog Meat off to explore and loot will be an option.

As far as human companions are concerned, they revealed both Preston Garvey (pictured above), leader of the Commonwealth Minutemen faction, and the charismatic Piper, who uses her powers of persuasion to get her way. On top of working in tandem with your human, robotic (Mr. Handy who can apparently voice whatever name you give yourself), and canine buddies, you will also be able to romance the humans in the group regardless of gender.

Also, perks are now tethered to special stats as opposed to levels. There are 70 in total, with 275 ranks spread between the lot. Also, according to the way attendees described it, sounds like factions will be able to wage war against each other.

Fallout Shelter

Fallout Shelter is coming to Android devices next month.

Speaking of Fallout, Bethesda also announced the official release date for Fallout Shelter on Android devices. The game is set to launch August 13th, which is a little over a month before the recently announced Fallout Anthology hits shelves. What’s more is that alongside the game’s Android debut, is an update that brings Mr. Handy into the title to collect resources, defend the Vault, and more. For more details, check out our full post.

Some guy got Half-Life running on his Android Device

I’m not quite sure why you’d want to do this, but YouTube user Dave Bennett got Half-Life to work on an Android watch. While working on a tutorial to explain how to get the game working on Android, he discovered that it was possible to play on Android ware as well.

He explains on his channel that by using the SDLash App–which is used to emulate the GoldSource engine–it’s possible to run the game. While not ideal, it’s still a fun proof of concept.

Check out the video above to see the app in action.

Watch team Nerdist go head to head in laser tag against Battleborn characters.

If you visited Petco park during San Diego Comic-Con this year, hopefully you enjoyed the Conival festivities we hosted alongside our sister sites Geek and Sundry and Amy Poehler Smart Girls. In addition to jousting, celebrity interviews, and awesome photo ops, attendees were able to test their laser tag abilities in our Battleborn-themed course. Team Nerdist also joined in on the fun, forming a team made up of the best laser tag combatants lead by our own Dan Casey.

Check out the video above to find out what happens when our fearless group emerge from the portal on the other side to face characters from Gearbox’s upcoming game.

Koijma and Del Toro

Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro are still working together.

Well this is some fantastic news: according to an interview Guillermo Del Toro did with IGN, he and Hideo Kojima still have plans to collaborate on a project. Before you get too excited, Del Toro confirmed that they won’t be working on Silent Hills–which was cancelled by Konami after Kojima’s departurebut will instead be creating something else.

Del Toro stated, “I love working with Kojima-san. We are still in touch. We are still friends and working into doing something together, but that’s not going to be [Silent Hills].”

He also explained what the duo had planned for the cancelled project, “We were in the planning stages, and it’s a shame it’s not going to happen,” Del Toro said. “We were talking about really pushing the boundaries of the new consoles, and making the game really mess with your head. One of the great moments in Metal Gear [Solid] was Psycho Mantis. The idea that a game can actually interact with you, and stuff like that.”

While this brings up bitter memories of the game’s unfortunate cancellation, the news is exciting, and we can’t wait to hear more.
