It seems like everyone’s finally getting their announcements and trailers for this week out now, because Monday’s news drought is definitely over. It’s a good thing too, because The Division‘s open beta will likely consume many folk’s weekends. No one wants to get overshadowed by the internet’s reaction to this game, which I can guarantee will be completely mixed across the board. In today’s Gaming Daily: two robbers make $75,000 by stealing Magic: The Gathering cards, Blade & Soul eclipses one million users in one week, Insomniac Games teases a new project, and more.

Robbers steal $75,000 in Magic: The Gathering cards

Lame! A couple of goons were caught on camera robbing an Austin-based game store last Sunday. The two burglars lifted $75,000 worth of Magic: The Gathering cards from Pat’s Games after tearing the front door’s lock off with a water meter key. Not quite The Italian Job, but a pretty lucrative criminal act nonetheless.

The only flaw in their plan is that the burglars may have given themselves away simply by being too good at committing the crime. Authorities already suspect that one of the store’s local Magic players is responsible “because it only took him 20 seconds to go in and find our highest-dollared cards.” To make matters worse for the robbers, there’s even a Magic-playing detective on the case who normally deals with residential burglaries. This crime is right up his alley, so I doubt much time passes before these marauders are caught and brought to justice.

Over 1 million users log on for Blade & Soul‘s western release

For a game that’s nearly four years old (released in Korea in 2012), Blade & Soul is doing some rather impressive numbers here in the good ole west. The game went live in North America on January 19 and has already had over one million users log on. It’s been more successful here stateside, thus far, than it was in Korea when it first launched! NCSoft West CEO Song-yee Yoon is pretty stoked about the game’s recent success:

“It is thrilling that so many people are excited about the arrival of Blade & Soul in the west,” she stated. “We will continue to work tirelessly to make sure our amazing players have a great time in this epic game.”

Yep, Blade & Soul is what’s hot in the streets these days. Since NCSoft’s martial arts MMO launched last week, it has been immensely popular amongst the Twitch community, with various streamers broadcasting their characters’ adventures. It’ll be interesting to see if the game remains relevant once the wave of first-quarter AAA titles starts hitting next week.

 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan looks tubular!

Platinum Games “officially leaked” the trailer for their upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game. To put in simple: this may be the best TMNT game since Turtles in Time. Whether you’re a fan of Platinum Games, TMNT, or hack-and-slash games period, you’ll definitely want to see what’s in store for the turtles in their next video game outing.

Insomniac Games has something in the oven

The brilliant minds behind the Ratchet & Clank, Spyro, and Resistance series are up to something new. Insomniac Games dropped a teaser for an upcoming announcement early on Tuesday, showcasing a mysterious underwater locale. Is this the Ecco the Dolphin reboot that we’ve all been waiting for? Probably not, but the video (viewable above) does seem to indicate that Insomniac is moving on to a new IP.

I’m always excited to see these guys run with original ideas. They’re most recent title, Sunset Overdrive, was one of the better first-year games to hit in this generation of console gaming, though it didn’t get the recognition it deserved. We’ll be keeping an eye on all Insomniac channels to see what else they have coming down the pipeline.
