Gaming Daily: Jason Voorhees Joins the MORTAL KOMBAT X Roster

Happy Friday the 13th everybody! I know, you’ve probably been ogling the new Dead Rising: Watchtower character poster we revealed earlier today, but that’s not all that happened in the gaming world today. So, before you head off into the evening to marathon the Friday the 13th films, we’re here to keep you up to date. In today’s Gaming Daily, Jason Voorhees has been added to the Mortal Kombat X roster, Sony released a new trailer for Bloodborne, and Lego The Hobbit will not be receiving The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies related DLC.

Jason Voorhees is coming to Mortal Kombat

With today being Friday the 13th, this announcement couldn’t be more appropriate. Jason Voorhees, the hockey mask wearing machete wielding murderer from the classic Friday the 13th films is coming to Mortal Kombat X as a playable character! He’ll be one of four playable characters included in the Kombat Pack DLC pass, which will retail at $30 on its own.

Jason isn’t the first film character to slash his way into the Mortal Kombat series. His good old friend Freddy Krueger–who was the first-ever guest character from a film franchise to fight in a Kombat game–made his debut in 2011’s Mortal Kombat 9. While Freddy hasn’t been confirmed yet, it wouldn’t be surprising for him to make a komeback as he was one of the most downloaded DLC characters in MK9.

Kratos, the God of War himself, was another guest in the last entry we’ve yet to hear anything about. It will be interesting to see if he and Kruger return, or if NetherRealm has a couple of other surprises up their sleeves before the game’s April 14, 2015 release. Unfortunately for those who were planning to play on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, the game has been delayed until summer of this year.

Sony released a creepy new Bloodborne trailer.

With the release of its exclusive just around the corner, Sony has posted a brand new trailer for Bloodborne titled “Undone by the Blood” and it’s especially chilling. The three minute video features monstrous pigs, giant screaming bosses, gothic environments and of course, a disturbing baby cry at the end of the video.

The video also provides the tiniest of glimpses at the player-vs-player mode FromSoftware elaborated on last week. According to the developer, up to three players will be able to engage in an online cooperative game to tackle bosses. Players will be able to search for friends, or open up their world to random players around the world–which is how it was done in Dark Souls.

Bloodborne is set to release on March 24, 2015 in the US and March 27, 2015 in the UK exclusively on the PlayStation 4.

LEGO The Hobbit‘s Story won’t be finished with DLC.

Although Peter Jackson’s trilogy of Hobbit films have already been released, Warner Bros. LEGO The Hobbit, which follows the story line of the first two films, will not tell the tale of The Battle of the Five Armies with DLC.

On the matter, a Warner Bros. rep stated, “The LEGO The Hobbit videogame gives LEGO and Middle-earth fans a fun, new way to experience the legendary adventures of Bilbo and company as told in the first two films of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy. The game provides an excellent set-up for the concluding chapter of Peter Jackson’s film, The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies. There are no plans to develop DLC based on the final film of the trilogy”.

However, Gameinformer was quick to point out a particular press release for the title that stated “Additional content based on the third film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, is planned to be available at a future release date”. This was of course before the third film saw a name change, but it’s interesting that somewhere along the line they decided to drop the content.

So, either we will never see content based on the last stretch of Bilbo’s journey, or it will come in another form, maybe as a separate release later on.
