Gaming Daily: IRON MAIDEN’s ‘Speed of Light’ Music Video References DONKEY KONG and More

Happy Friday, everybody! Whether you’ll be heading into the weekend to play video games, watch the hopeless Twitch Plays Dark Souls stream, or spend time with family, the good news is we’ve made it through another work week. Sure another week is on the way, but until then, I’ve grabbed a couple of news stories from the day to keep you entertained and up to date. In today’s Gaming Daily, Iron Maiden’s newest music video is an awesome homage to gaming, Guillermo Del Toro doesn’t want to work on games anymore, CD Projekt Red released a MODkit for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a 90-minute look at Mad Max gameplay on the PS4 was released, and UFC Champion Fabricio Werdum to make voice-only cameo in Halo 5: Guardians.

Iron Maiden Music Video Gaming

Iron Maiden’s music video for “Speed of Light” references Donkey Kong and more

Don’t you just love it when worlds collide? Iron Maiden released a brand new music video today for the song “Speed of Light” and it’s chock full of sweet gaming references.

The video–which you can check out above–shows the band’s mascot Eddie getting sucked into the digital world a la Tron’s Kevin Flynn. Along the way, Eddie wins the Jessica Rabbit-esque girl’s heart by scaling ladders, using a hatchet to put out flames, and tossing a tv at the baddie on the roof. He also encounters obvious references to Blade Runner, and Call of Duty, and throws down with The Beast in a Mortal Kombat-style battle to the death.

“Speed of Light” is the first single off Iron Maiden’s upcoming album The Book of Souls–which is the band’s first album since 2010.

Guillermo Del Toro Image

Guillermo Del Toro doesn’t want to work on any more video games.

Just when we thought there’d be a chance that a Guillermo Del Toro/Hideo Kojima game might happen after all, our dreams were crushed–or at least mine were. According to an interview Playboy conducted with Del Toro back back during San Diego Comic-Con, Del Toro will “never again get involved in videogames” because he feels that he’s become “the albatross of video games” after things went awry with the projects he was working on with THQ (Insane) and Konami (Silent Hills).

It’s really unfortunate that he feels like a bad luck charm now. Hopefully he changes his mind. I for one am still interested to see a game with him at the helm, preferably with Kojima-san.

CD Projekt Red introduces new MODkit.

If you ever sat and wondered what Roach would look like as a fabulous unicorn, you’re in luck! CD Projekt Red just announced an official modkit that will make all your dreams come true. The best part is, it’s out today.

According to The Witcher forum, gamers will be able to modify the looks and feel of objects in the game, as well as substitute new meshes for the ones already in existence. Script files will be accessible to all, allowing modders to run with their imaginations.

The new Modkit is available for download via nexusmods.com.

90 minute Mad Max PS4 gameplay video released.

Boy is this game looking good. I got a chance to play a bit of it during E3 this year, and I have to say that come September 1, you won’t be disappointed. Don’t believe me? Check out the whopping 90 minutes of high-octane gameplay GamesHQMedia uploaded to their YouTube channel yesterday. Also, make sure to check out our very own Malik Forté’s detailed impressions

Fabricio Werdum

UFC Champion Fabricio Werdum to make small voice-only cameo in Halo 5: Guardians.

It looks like Ronda Rousey isn’t the only fighter making gaming headlines this week. UFC fighter Fabricio Werdum, who is a huge fan of the Halo Series, will be lending his voice to character in Halo 5: Guardians. Before you get too excited, Microsoft pointed out that you’ll have to search for the hidden cameo.

“Fabricio Werdum makes a small, voice-only cameo appearance in Halo 5: Guardians,” noted a Microsoft spokesperson. “He’s a big fan of Halo and we’re big fans of his, so it’s always fun when these kinds of things work out. It’s a bit of an Easter egg though, so you’ll have to really be looking for it.”

The news was first reported by International Business Times a few days ago. According to the original report, Werdum’s bit was recorded before he defeated Cain Velasquez back in June.
