Gaming Daily: GRAND THEFT AUTO V Gets Some Spooky Content

It’s been an interesting week to say the least. Not only has there been weird news like Nintendo’s announcement of their first mobile game, Miitomo, but really, Halo 5: Guardians has dominated the headlines. A flood of reviews hit the web this week (including ours), and fans have finally been able to get their hands on the game. It’s been interesting to watch how divisive views of this title have been among the fans in the first week. Though, unlike Halo 4, most agree the newest iteration nailed multiplayer. So, let’s move on to the news of the day. In today’s Gaming Daily: Rockstar announces spooky GTA: Online content, Halo 5: Guardians won’t get campaign DLC, Nintendo announces “My Nintendo” rewards system, Outlast 2 has been announced for next year, and Sony has shipped almost 30 million PS4‘s worldwide.

GTA Spooky Hearse

GTA: Online gets spooky.

Halloween is upon us, and that means it’s time for some spooky, scary skeletons. Rockstar is joining the festivities by releasing some frightening Grand Theft Auto: Online content. The new batch of content, which was sneakily slipped in with the Lowrider update, will include new vehicles, masks, and even an Adversary mode called “The Slasher”, which includes 5 maps to play.

39 masks, face paint, and even a flashlight will be available to help you express yourself the way you want to. There are even bobble heads for your sick rides. As for the new whips, you’ll be able to purchase the Albany Lurcher hearse and the Franken Stange hot rod. Special surprises will continue to make an appearance through November 16, so enjoy it now while you can. Rockstar is even going to be a hosting special live stream tomorrow at 2 p.m. PST featuring a couple special guests. They’ll be announcing even more activities for this weekend.

This is how you keep a community engaged in your content. Great job, Rockstar.

Halo 5: Guardians won’t be getting any story DLC.

In an interview with Red Bull, Creative Director Jonathan Holmes of Halo 5: Guardians made it clear that story DLC  is currently not planned. In other words, the lacking story will be all you get until the next title in the series. “While we’re always looking for new ways to expand the Halo universe, we do not currently have any plans to release future campaign content for Halo 5: Guardians,” said Holmes. I seriously wish we’d get more campaign content to explore the Spartans in Blue Team. They seem to have an interesting history, but the game certainly didn’t seem interested in discussing it.

Nintendo Outlines

My Nintendo will be Club Nintendo’s successor.

In the same investors briefing where Nintendo announced their first mobile game, they also revealed Club Nintendo‘s successor, “My Nintendo”. Yeah, not much of an imaginative name, but hey, we’re all game since it still offers the most loyal of fans some sweet loot, just as Club Nintendo did. Most interesting of all is the change of account system. Now, you’ll be able to either create a standard account like before, or can link it with Facebook, Google Plus, and Twitter. More surprisingly is the fact that you’ll be able to use this service to transfer information from mobile platforms to their home consoles, which could mean a more streamlined experience on their consoles in the near future.

You’ll also be able to go through your purchase history, and it will even support online purchases. The current system on the Wii U and 3DS is so backwards, and honestly frustrating. Linking all of their platforms through this new account could be a step in the right direction, and will hopefully lead to allowing users to easily re-download previously purchased games on new hardware.

Outlast 2 has been announced.

Outlast is seriously one of the title’s that’s #2spooky4me. It’s actually one of the scariest games of this generation of home consoles, so if you’re into the horror genre, you’ll be happy to know that Outlast 2 is a thing, and it’s coming next year. A quick teaser was released today, and you can watch it above. Warning, it’s a bit frightening; the upside down, burning cross is pretty freaky. I can’t wait to delve into this title come next year. All we know at the moment is that it will feature new characters and a new setting. Night vision goggles will also be making a welcomed return.

E3 PRESS CONFERENCE - PS4-2x2

Surprise, surprise, the PS4 is making lots of money for Sony.

Apparently, the PS4 now prints money–or at least it does for Sony. In the recent second quarter report, Sony announced that the company is seeing a lot of success across the board, with their latest console continuing it’s complete dominance. More importantly, the Japanese mega-company has now shipped almost 30 million PS4’s worldwide. Those aren’t sales numbers, but it’s an impressive number nonetheless. It means the demand for the console is there, and that they expect a lot of those will be sold. Some other interesting factoids from the report include a decrease in PS3 software sales, which could be a sign that people are finally upgrading.

It’s hard to even keep up with the PS4’s sales numbers anymore, because every time a new report is released, the machine somehow surpasses even the most optimistic numbers. It’s been that good for Sony so far. I’m more interested in this because of the holiday season. As we have noted before, the next couple of months will see the market flooded with some spectacular Xbox One exclusives including Rise of the Tomb Raider and Halo 5: Guardians, the latter which already hit store shelves. How the PS4 will fare against this juggernaut of a catalogue will be interesting. Things will be even more interesting now that the PS4 is being sold at $349.99.
