Gaming Daily: FINAL FANTASY XV Development Update

Can you believe it’s already December? Most of the games everyone’s been hyped about all year have already hit shelves; and yet it feels like only yesterday that we were all yearning to play Fallout 4. Time flies when you’re having fun, I suppose. Before I get too nostalgic about this year, let’s talk about the news of the day. In today’s Gaming Daily: Final Fantasy XV‘s development is going well, grab a limited edition golden Naruto Funko figure, Rocket League may be coming to Xbox One, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End‘s multiplayer beta is launching a day early, and the new Severed trailer is fantastic.

FINAL-FANTASY-XV-04012015

Final Fantasy XV‘s development is going surprisingly well.

After a decade of tumultuous development for Final Fantasy XV, Kitade (programmer), has stated the title is actually coming along quite nicely. More surprisingly, the game is apparently playable from beginning to end. You may be asking yourself, “why is this news worthy?” Well, Square Enix has a habit of announcing games way too soon. This means that a 2016 launch window may actually be feasible—who would have thought?

Of course, this doesn’t mean that the game is anywhere polished enough to ship, but it does mean that things are going according to plan. I’m sure there’s still a whole lot of extra work to do before we can play the game. Still, this is great news for those who have been waiting years to experience the title. I’ll stay cautiously optimistic.

All that said, the main takeaway here is that Square really needs to stop announcing games so damn early. At this rate we’ll have our hands on the Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2025.

Nab a golden Naruto Funko figurine.

GameStop has announced an exclusive limited edition bundle for Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 that will feature an exclusive golden Naruto Funko mini figure. Best of all, it only costs $5 more than the retail price of the regular edition. I’m really excited to get my hands on this game because it will cover the last bit of Naruto Uzimaki’s story and much of the 4th Shinobi World War arc. Plus, there will be wall running. Hell yes!

Rocket League Halloween

Rocket League rated for Xbox One.

Rejoice! Xbox One owners may soon be able to duke it out on the pitch—the Rocket League pitch that is. An Xbox One version of the surprise hit has been rated, thanks to Gematsu who noticed this bit of information on Taiwan’s rating database. It’s strange because Psyonix had stated the game would not be ported onto other platforms earlier this year. With the title already being readily available on the PC and PS4, it makes sense to port it onto Microsoft’s console, but why say you wouldn’t in the first place? Did things change, or was it part of the deal with Sony?

This title is surprisingly still going strong, almost constantly receiving new content. I must admit that I’m terrible at Rocket League, so I’m not a fan of sucking on two home consoles, but it’s great that even more people will get to enjoy the sheer bliss of scoring goals and knocking out opponents in rocket-powered vehicles.

uncharted-4-e3

Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta going live early.

Those of you patiently waiting for the multiplayer beta of Uncharted 4 to finally launch will be happy to hear that the test will go live a day early. Instead of heading our way on the December 4, it will actually be available on the 3rd for everyone that purchased the The Nathan Drake Uncharted Collection. Seeing the brilliant job Naughty Dog did with The Last of Us multiplayer component, I’m excited to see what gets translated from that title and the previous online components of the other games in the Uncharted series. I’m not usually too excited for these games’ competitive modes, but getting to play any aspect of our treasure hunter’s last adventure excites me.

New Severed trailer is fantastic.

HA! You thought the Vita was dead. No, no: a new trailer for the PS Vita exclusive Severed has hit the net, and it actually looks fantastic. Made by the same team behind the fantastic Guacamelee—DrinkBox—this trailer shows off some of the touch mechanics which will be a vital gameplay mechanic. The COO of DrinkBox had the following to say on the PlayStation Blog:

“Combat is done primarily using the touchscreen, but Severed is definitely not a casual game. In fact, we think that using the touchscreen for sword combat has allowed us to make the game a much more deep and complex experience than button-based sword fighting ever could have been.”

I know red flags are instantly raised when you hear touchscreen, but this developer has made some spectacular games in the last few years so I trust that the trend will continue. PSX attendees will also be able to try out a demo of the title and get a free code for the PS4 version of Guacamelee Super Turbo Edition by visiting their booth on the floor. I’m definitely going to make my way over there.

That’s it for today, folks. I’m stoked about the video game awards tomorrow, and am actually anxious to see which games take home awards. Plus, we also have PSX this weekend, which is certainly going to be a whole lot of fun. Did you pre-order the Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 limited edition bundle?
