Gaming Daily: DESTINY’s Sparrow Racing League is Officially Open

As much as I enjoyed the PlayStation Experience last weekend, it’s good to be back home in LA. Hopefully you enjoyed all of our coverage from the event. I can tell you that team Nerdist certainly had a blast covering the keynote and trying out experiences that will be available on the PlayStation platforms in the near future. I must also applaud Sony for putting on such a fantastic fan event. Anyways, let’s talk today’s news shall we? In today’s Gaming Daily: Destiny‘s Sparrow Racing League is officially open, Malik plays some Uncharted 4 multiplayer on Nerdist Play, PlayStation had its most successful Black Friday this year, the PlayStation Message App is now available, and Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red is aiming for a 2016 launch for Cyberpunk 2077.

Destiny’s Sparrow Racing League now open.

One of my favorite announcements over the weekend was the Destiny Sparrow Racing. I mean, it’s kind of a no-brainer to be honest. Bungie announced that Guardians who own The Taken King can start racing around for loot, and more importantly, the glory, starting today. You’ll be able to win a bunch of goodies in this event like gear, sparrows, and even shaders. Best of all, some of this gear may boast a 320 light level. Now that’s lit. It’s yet to be seen how likely it is that you will get one of these high leveled pieces of armor, but this could be a great opportunity to grind for the best gear available in the game.

I didn’t get to try the racing at PSX, but I do know quite a few people who did, and they all consistently said it was a complete blast. Of course, these events are a more controlled environment, so we will have to wait and see how well these races work when more Guardians jump online. Like I mentioned in my PlayStation keynote recap, everyone who has played Destiny has unofficially raced their friends, so this is a really cool idea by Bungie. The event will speed through December 29.

Malik played Uncharted 4‘s multiplayer beta on this week’s Nerdist Play

It’s been a very Uncharted last few days with the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End multiplayer beta launching last week, and a new trailer dropping this weekend.  So, our very own Malik Forté decided to join the multiplayer madness in today’s Nerdist Play. Man, this game is looking crisp. Malik of course messes around with all of the customization options (including all the taunts) and then proceeds to kick some butt online. Peep the clip above.

I have zero doubts about this game, because let’s be honest, Naughty Dog has earned that kind of trust. But at this point, I just want to play the game already.

PlayStation had a great Black Friday.

How great was Black Friday for the PlayStation brand? Well, according to Sony’s Andrew House, it was “the most successful Black Friday in the company’s history.” He revealed this info when talking to Times.

I don’t doubt this news since the PlayStation 4 has been one of the most dominant forces in the gaming world since the Wii and PS2. Speaking of Sony’s most successful console, House was asked whether he believed the PS4 could outsell the PS2, and he didn’t want to make the prediction. The man is smart.

Microsoft also reported recently that this was the second best Black Friday in their history. None of this is honestly surprising since the PS4 has been surging since it released, and the Xbox One games catalogue keeps on getting more and more impressive with each passing month. Let’s also not forget that both consoles were on sale that weekend.

PlayStation Messages App now available.

Sony announced that the newest update to the PlayStation App–which is currently available on both Android and iOS–would be losing the messaging feature. Instead, you will have to download a new offering titled “PlayStation Messages” in order to talk to your PSN friends on the go. It’s basically the same approach that Facebook took with their very own mobile app. At least now you won’t have to jump through a bunch of hoops to send a message on PSN.

Cyberpunk 2077 may launch in 2016.

The people who have brought you one of the years most impressive titles, The Witcher 3, are aiming to launch their next game in 2016, according to a report from Gamereactor Germany. CD Projekt Red has not said much about this title since the first reveal trailer back in 2013, and the good folks over there also mentioned that we wouldn’t see much of the game until at least 2013.

Of course, it’s hard to believe that the game could be coming next year. The team over there is still working on expansions, and even if the teams split into smaller groups to work on several projects, 2016 still seems too early, especially since The Witcher 3 only launched earlier this year. Would I love to be playing Cyberpunk 2077 next year? Of course, but I didn’t think the game would be this late into development already.
