Gaming Daily: DESTINY Update Nerfs ‘Loot Cave’ Glitch

They say that old habits die young, especially the ones that have you spraying bullets into a dark cave for hours on end — in a video game. Today’s headlines include that very habit, as well as some Wii U games that have surfaced in the Nintendo eShop as of this morning. Also, we released our official Destiny review earlier today, after two grueling weeks of exploring the game’s vast array of content. I’d love for you to check it out, but until then, let’s talk about this cave business.

Bungie’s latest Destiny update kills the “loot cave” and tweaks voice chatting options.

Destiny launched a little over two weeks ago and there have already been tons of memes created around the game’s various MMO-like shenanigans (the legendary engram meme being my current favorite).  One of the more popular memes was inspired by the “Loot Cave,” an area on Earth where players can easily shoot constantly, respawning Hive enemies and then collect the pile of items and loot that’s left behind. Bungie has decided to patch this area of the game, meaning players can no longer spend hours shooting at a black hole to rank up their character. As folks on the web rage about Bungie’s decision to cut this out, I’d like to think that most people are aware that this is boosting, which is a fancy word for “cheating to get experience points and items,” and definitely not the way that the developers intended for us to play the game. At ease, my friends.

On a lighter note, players who have been yearning for the ability to talk to folks outside of their fireteam while in game now have that option. Though it isn’t the proximity-based chat format we hoped for, it’s still loads better than nothing at all. Either way, it’s swell to see Bungie supporting their game so quickly, and hopefully fast results like these continue throughout its lifespan.

Today’s Nintendo eShop releases.

Nintendo’s eShop has been updated today and the offerings should definitely pique the interest of the many Legend of Zelda fans out there who’ve been yearning for Hyrule Warriors. Alongside that, the Wii U virtual console saw several rad additions as well, including Mario Golf: Advanced Tour and Darts Up. Here’s a complete list of today’s content that’s up for sale:

Angry Bunnies: Colossal Carrot Crusade (Cypronia, 1 player, $1)
Darts Up (EnjoyUp Games, 4 players, $2.49)
Hyrule Warriors (Nintendo, 2 players simultaneous, $60)
Mario Golf: Advance Tour (Nintendo, 1 player, $7)
Spin the Bottle: Bumpie’s Party (Demo) (KnapNok Games, 8 players, $12)

No DLC content coming to Wii U version of Watch Dogs.

On the other side of Wii U-ville, we’ve got more news on that Watch Dogs port that’s set to hit the system sometime this November. If you were hoping to get a hold of any of the expansion content for the game that’s been made available on PlayStation and Xbox platforms, then you’re in for some disappointment. According to the Watch Dogs twitter account, there are no plans to release the DLC on the Wii U version of the game. Looks like the Wii U is getting the shaft from Ubisoft again, but let’s focus on the bright side: at least the game is making its way to the console at all.

And our Thursday in gaming is in the can, ladies and gentlemen! Make sure to head over here to catch our final review of Destiny, and to chat about our beloved medium, I’m only one tweet away: @Malik4play.

There’s a new loot cave … it’s in the first area of the “Devil’s Layer” strike … promise … look it up

  2. Pyke007 says:

it took me until the queens wrath to get anything legendary and I was sitting at 23 before the gear but I never felt the urge to sit in the cave to try to get anything. I’m an old school gamer playing since ’85 and I’d  rather grind through than sit and shoot. It’s been two people give it time, do you want to level out and not get more for your money or be done with it and move on to another $60 game.

  3. AngryGamer^9 says:

I payed real world money for this game, and if the developers make it so that it is impossible to get the armor and weapons to get a higher level character I don’t really care.  Why not actually reward the player for doing strikes? Or reward the player for playing the game “properly”?  They force most gamers to do this, then make it sound like they are doing it for our good to patch it.  Instead of spending all of your money on the marketing and hype for the game why not add more content, better writing, and the ability to read about the story in game instead of the stupid card system out of game.  Fix your end so we don’t have to do this.

I agree wholeheartedly. The loot cave was a cheat I did not appreciate. I did not use it and now my friends (are they really friends) are way ahead of me in lvls and I am a little pissed at Bungie for screwing this up.

farming is not cheating…its actually used in many games, im sure you have done it plenty of times

  4. GameOgre says:

“definitely not the way that the developers intended for us to play the game”
Who cares what the developers intended? If someone wants to sit and shoot a hole for hours that’s their prerogative and it’s hardly boosting. Their still working for their XP.

    • @T_Magus666 says:

      Its called cheating. ’nuff said.

    • Spencer says:

Essentially infinite ammo in a chokehold area that wasn’t intended to have respawning enemies at every moment. It may not be cheating, but it certainly isn’t the way a real gamer would play the game
