Gaming Daily: DESTINY Sequel Coming in 2017, Large Expansion Later This Year

Today has certainly been jam-packed with exciting news. In addition to Hideo Kojima starting his own YouTube channel: Hideo Tube, Ubisoft, Bungie, Bethesda, and Remedy Entertainment all had some interesting updates. In today’s Gaming Daily, Destiny is getting a sequel in 2017 and a massive expansion later this year, Ubisoft confirms that the next Assassin’s Creed title won’t be launching this year and that a Watch Dogs sequel is on the way, Fallout 4 will be getting a survival mode, Quantum Break is releasing on PC, and the NPD numbers are in.

Cryptarch-in-Destiny

Massive Destiny expansion and sequel on the way.

Listen up, Guardians! There was some exciting news on the Destiny front earlier today. Prior to its quarterly earnings call, Activision revealed that the title would be receiving a massive expansion some time this year. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, the company also confirmed a 2017 launch window for the sequel.

“Activision Publishing, along with its partners at Bungie, expects to bring a large new expansion to Destiny in 2016 and to release a full game sequel in 2017,” the investor note read.

Despite its rocky beginnings, and struggle to keep fans engaged for an extended period of time, the game has done pretty well for itself since its September 2014 launch. During that time span, the title saw several expansions (including the absolutely fantastic Destiny: The Taken King), a ton of special events (like the Valentine’s Day one that’s currently underway), and over 25 million players who’ve logged more than 3 billion hours in game time.

If the expansion transforms the game as much as The Taken King did, I’m all in and stoked for another one. As for the sequel, I’m not sure which direction Bungie is headed in, but according to the developer’s blog post, they’ll be sure to keep us updated along the way.

Watch Dogs

Watch Dogs sequel on the way, next Assassin’s Creed entry skipping 2016

A couple of weeks ago, rumors concerning Ubisoft’s plans for the next entry in the Assassin’s Creed series started to circulate. After staying silent on the matter, the developer/publisher came forward today and confirmed that the series would be taking a break this year. It was also confirmed that Watch Dogs’s sequel would be released some time before April 2017.  For more details, head on over to our full report (linked below).

Fallout 4 Dogmeat

Fallout 4 to get improved “Survival Mode.”

And the announcements just keep coming! If you were disappointed in Fallout 4‘s “survival mode” I have some good news. Bethesda teased its plans to make big changes to the system.

The tweet read: “We’re also doing a complete overhaul of Fallout 4 Survival mode. Food, sleep, diseases, danger and more. Stay tuned.” So, if you were a fan of how Fallout: New Vegas dealt with those concepts, this might be just the thing you’re looking for.

As for the Fallout 4 DLC plans we’ve all been so desperate to hear about, the company confirmed that they’re “not far off” and that they think we’ll be excited. Let’s hope they are right!

quantum break

Quantum Break is coming to PC.

You’re either going to love this announcement or hate it. Microsoft and Remedy revealed earlier today that Quantum Break–which was previously an Xbox One exclusive–will also be releasing on PC April 5th. In addition, the company detailed their pre-order plans (which includes backwards compatibility for Alan Wake, YES!), dropped a new live-action trailer, and unveiled the PC specs. Call of Duty Black Ops III

Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and GTA V top NPD’s  list of best-selling games for January 2016.

The NPD Group dropped their top ten best-selling games list for January 2016, and like last month, we weren’t surprised. Call of Duty: Black Ops III, GTA V, and Star Wars Battlefront still reign supreme. Aside from placement, the only difference between January and December is the inclusion of LEGO Marvel Avengers, which took the number 9 spot previously held by Minecraft: Story Mode.

Though it’s not shocking to see Grand Theft Auto on the list again, NPD analyst Liam Callahan noticed a curious phenomenon. “Astonishingly, the game has moved up in ranking placement from fifth place in January 2014, to third in January 2015, and to the second-best selling game in January 2016.”

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops III (XBO, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
  2. Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3, PC)
  3. NBA 2K16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
  4. Star Wars Battlefront 2015 (XBO, PS4, PC)
  5. Fallout 4 (PS4, XBO, PC)
  6. Minecraft (360, XBO, PS4, PS3)
  7. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege (XBO, PS4, PC)
  8. Madden NFL 16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
  9. Lego Marvel Avengers (PS4, XBO, 360, NWU, PS3, 3DS, PSV)
  10. FIFA 16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
