Gaming Daily: Daniel Radcliffe in Talks to Play GRAND THEFT AUTO Creator in TV Drama

It was a bit of a slow news day in the video game world today with only the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided trailer trickling out. But worry not, there were still a couple of newsworthy developments worth calling to attention. In today’s Gaming Daily: Daniel Radcliffe may play the Grand Theft Auto co-founder in a BBC TV drama, Code Name: Steam gains a necessary speed bump, and NBA 2k14 servers are back up.

Daniel Radcliffe in talks to play Grand Theft Auto co-founder in BBC television drama

From one iconic franchise to the next, Daniel Radcliffe–who’s known as the leading man in the Harry Potter film franchise–is now in talks to play Sam Houser, the co-founder of Rockstar Games, in an upcoming BBC television drama. We reported that BBC would be making a television show that chronicles all the drama that transpired before the inception of Grand Theft Auto. The actor has been in several films since the Potter films were completed with varying success. He was even on Broadway, so he is definitely no stranger to the drama genre.

The television-film, titled Grand Theft Auto, is written by James Wood, directed by Owen Harris and begins shooting on April 20. Though nothing is set in stone as of yet, we’re hoping that Radcliffe accepts the role and this becomes a thing. It may not sound as fun as watching Harry Potter go “San Andreas” on everyone, but at least it would get Daniel Radcliffe back in front of nerd eyes once again.

Code Name: Steam update speeds the game up

Code Name: Steam released not too long ago on the Nintendo 3DS and garnered a mix reaction from fans and critics. For the most part, it was a fun wacky and strategy game with some hilarious historical figures in it. But there was one huge problem that annoyed plenty of people: During encounters with enemies, the player was forced to watch the opponents whole turn unfold without any way to skip it. Pretty boring to just sit there and watch the computer, wouldn’t you imagine? It proved to be large enough of a problem to get Nintendo to actually patch the encounters. With the newest update, the functionality of the fast forward option has been improved during enemy turns.

Unfortunately, you still won’t be able to skip the encounter, but at least we get some type of a change. On original 3DS XLs devices, the fast forward works twice as fast, and if you are lucky enough to own a shiny New 3DS Xl, you can fast forward at three times the speed. This should make the game much more enjoyable and more streamlined.

Lesson of the day: Get yourself a New 3DS XL already.

NBA 2k14 servers come back up

In case you missed it, servers were shut down on March 31st for NBA 2k14– a game that released a little over a year ago. Now that may not sound like a big deal to you, unless you were a fan of the online component. And if you were that dedicated, you probably already owned a copy the newest iteration of the game. Apparently, however, shutting down of servers not only took down the online component, but it also took save files with it. Now that’s a problem. Acting quickly, the NBA 2K14 have been restored along with everyone’s save files. 2K Sports has also announced that their policies have changed for NBA 2k titles, and servers will now be up for 27 months following each release instead of 18.

The shutdown was supposed to take online franchises and turn them into an offline save file. That obviously did not happen and the outcry was real from ballers everywhere. NBA 2K14 hasn’t even been out for 18 months so it is odd that the servers were even taken down at this time. Either way the issues have been amended rather quickly.

That is it for today, folks! Hopefully you’ve learned a few lessons here. First, Daniel Radcliffe would be fun to watch in an action-packed violent film. Second, you should upgrade to a New 3DS XL. And third, 2K Sports always has your back in the long run. Slam dunk your thoughts on today’s events down in the comments below.
