Gaming Daily: Could This Be Nintendo’s NX Controller?

Is it already time for E3? It sure seems like it with all of these rumors and “leaks” hitting the web recently. I guess everyone just wants to know what Nintendo is up to at the moment. We’re all not-so patiently waiting for the Big N to reveal their next piece of hardware, the NX. As such, we have more possible leaks for you. In today’s Gaming Daily, we may have gotten a glimpse of the Nintendo NX controller, eat hot wings for a chance to win Dark Souls III, Xbox One March update is rolling out, Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell films could be getting sequels, and the PS4 and Xbox One are outpacing their predecessors in the UK.

Could this be the Nintendo NX controller?

Well I certainly hope not.

Take this with a huge grain of salt, and consider this is likely fake—got it? A new high-res image of what could be the NX controller has surfaced. According to the Reddit post where this originated, the top of the nubs are the only part that move.  For what it’s worth, it matches the specs of the previously leaked patents.

So now for a second, let’s assume this is real: How would you feel about it? My instant reaction is: Why? How in the world does this make any sense? First, having the whole controller as a display just sounds like a bad idea—your hands would obstruct your vision (unless the middle of the controller is the only thing that’ll be displaying the games). On the other hand, if someone could find out how to make this an interesting experience, it would be Nintendo. But, they’d have a hard time convincing third-party publishers/developers to make use of the tech.

According to previous rumors, this could also just be a part of a more traditional console. Maybe it won’t be essential to the NX, and is simply one component. Personally, I don’t believe this one bit. It would be a horrible idea to follow the flop that is the Wii U with another gamepad-based console. This just looks like a weird PS Vita.

Dark Souls III is putting on a hot wings contest

Dark Souls Wings

Prepare to drink a lot of milk! At least if you like both hot wings and Dark Souls. Starting April 4, Bandai Namco and the UK restaurant MeatLiquor will challenge fans to eat 20 chicken wings as fast as they can for a chance to win a PS4, Dark Souls III: Collector’s Edition, and the Dark Souls III Prestige Edition. Now that’s a spicy deal! Planning on participating? You’ll need to sign a waiver (scary, right?) and even wear protective gloves to compete. The best time from each restaurant wins a PS4 with the Dark Souls III Collector’s Edition, while the overall winner in the UK will also nab the Prestige Edition. Why does the UK get to have all the fun? Check out all the details here.

Xbox One March update is rolling out

xbox-one-console

The new Xbox One update—which will include all the content preview members got to test out earlier this month—is rolling out to everyone today. To top it off, highly-requested features are also being introduced. Here’s what has been added to the list of updates:

  • Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller improved thumbstick precision.
  • Xbox Accessories app on Windows 10 displays the current firmware version, battery level, and other important controller details just like on the Xbox One.
  • Include Party Chat in Twitch broadcast, so that your viewers can hear your whole team.

Microsoft has seriously been killing it lately. Out of the three main home consoles out on the market right now, none have evolved like the Xbox One has. I know many of you would argue that Sony doesn’t need to do anything, because the PS4 is dominating, but you have to give credit where it’s due.

Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell could be turned into movie franchises

Assassin's Creed EW

Yes, we have yet to even see either the Assassin’s Creed or Splinter Cell films, but New Regency is reportedly considering sequels to both of these films. Daphne Yang, the CEO of Catchplay (the Taiwanese company that co-financed both films) stated to Variety, “they are both adaptations of successful Ubisoft games and would make ideal sequels.” Please, don’t let these film franchises become annualized. Still, New Regency will probably wait to see how well the films do before deciding on their next step. A solid move, as I’ve yet to see a video game film I like (Wreck-it Ralph being the exception).

Ps4 and Xbox One outpacing their predecessors in UK

20160318_nerdistnews_ps4xboxone_2x2

Remember when everyone predicted home consoles would die out? According to GAME (a UK shop), the PS4 and Xbox One are outpacing their predecessors in the UK. At this point in time, both consoles have sold a combined 5.1 million units, while the PS3 and Xbox 360 could only muster 3.5 million in the same amount of time. This is great news for the video game industry—everyone wins if consumers are still enjoying these machines.

Of course this data doesn’t include the anomaly that was the Wii. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be much of a competition. We’ll have to see if the PS4 and Xbox One will be able to keep up this historic pace.
