GAMING DAILY: Bungie Gifts Special Destiny Gun to Brain Surgery Patient and Blizzard Announced a New IP

Happy Friday everybody! Between BlizzCon and several developer streams there is plenty of news to go around today. In today’s Gaming Daily, Bungie gifted a super cool gun to a brain surgery patient, Blizzard announced a new IP and Bioware released more information on the upcoming Mass Effect game.

Destiny Fate of Fools

One-of-a-kind Destiny gun gifted to a man with health problems

In quite possibly some of the most heart-warming news today, Eric Levasseur, a man who has had several brain surgeries over this past year, found a special care package courtesy of Bungie waiting for him at the tower. Levasseur’s special surprise was given to him by the developer’s community manager Deej after Levasseur’s wife Brittany shared a Reddit post detailing his physician’s recommendation to play Destiny as a form of therapy.

As you’ll see in the image above, the one-of-a-kind gun he received is the exotic scout rifle Fate of All Fools. What’s so great about this one is that it won’t be available until much later. So until then, Eric will be the only non-Bungie employee running around with this bad boy.

Blizzard announced Overwatch

Yep, that’s right! For the first time in years, Blizzard announced a brand new IP! The game entitled Overwatch is a team-based multiplayer shooter with Pixar flare. As you’ll see in the fun cinematic trailer above, Blizzard’s upcoming title takes place in a technologically advanced future earth and features several distinct heroes including former British test pilot Tracer, German soldier Reinhardt, Japanese mercenary Hanzo, Indian architech Symmetra and many more.

“Overwatch is our take on a vibrant, near-future universe with amped-up characters and action-packed team-based gameplay,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “With every new Blizzard game, we look at our favorite aspects of a genre and put our own spin on things. Our goal with Overwatch is to create an awesome FPS experience that’s more accessible to a much wider audience while delivering the action and depth that shooter fans love.”

It was confirmed by Blizzard’s Chris Metzen during a BlizzCon panel this afternoon that the game is actually an evolution of Titan–the seven year MMO project the company officially cancelled back in September. He specified that it was “a very different game.”

Mass Effect Recap

Bioware revealed details about the upcoming Mass Effect game.

In celebration of N7 day, Bioware hosted a roundtable stream in which they discussed new information about the next entry in the Mass Effect series. According to the stream, the next title will introduce new alien races and species which according to Mike Gamble will have their own special worlds and architecture.

Also, it was revealed that while still customizable, the protagonist will not start off with as high a status as Commander Shepard. Because of this, you’ll be working your way up the ranks, gaining more respect along the way.

That’s it for today ladies and gents. Keep Nerdist tabbed for all your gaming news, reviews and features!
