Gaming Daily: Bethesda Claims FALLOUT 4 Could Be More Successful than SKYRIM

Happy Friday, everybody! With PAX Prime exactly a week away, and the glorious fall/holiday season of games soon to follow, we’re ramping up for tons of updates on upcoming titles. News has already begun to trickle in, and luckily for you, I’m here to keep you informed and up to date before you head off into the weekend. In today’s Gaming Daily, Bethesda says that Fallout 4 could be more successful than Skyrim, CineMassive created a version of Minesweeper that has up to 38,799 mines to avoid, Warner Bros. gives an update on the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight, the stars, producers and director Paul W.S. Anderson talk the Mortal Kombat film, and Red Dead Redemption reaches 14 million in sales.

Fallout 4

Fallout 4 to be more successful than Skyrim, according to Bethesda.

Considering the following the Fallout franchise has, it isn’t hard to imagine Fallout 4 surpassing the success of Bethesda’s other huge title The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Sure, people still continue to play Skyrim years after its 2011 release, but Pete Hines, VP of Bethesda PR, is confident that the newest entry in the Fallout franchise can top it.

In an interview with MCV, Hines stated, “I think [Fallout 4] can top Skyrim,” he said. “It could be our biggest release ever. But we will see.”

Despite his confidence, he admits that it’s hard to tell how successful it will be. “It is part of my job to build the megaphone that we hold up to the game, and the game decides just how loud it goes. Just how big it is going to be is hard to say,” he said. “Skyrim was a massively big deal.”

Fallout 4 is already shaping up to be the most ambitious entry in the series, and has been preceded by the successful mobile game, Fallout Shelter. With all of the new features they have on the way for this installment, I expect great things.

CineMassive created a version of Minesweeper that has up to 38,799 mines to avoid.

Minesweeper. The name alone brings back memories of the countless hours spent trying to avoid hidden mines behind a field of blank tiles. Click one and you’ll either be offered a number foretelling how many mine tiles surround it, a blank space, or worst case scenario, a mine that’ll end the game. Though the basic layout was manageable once you got the hang of it, the folks at CineMassive have created their very own version of the game, using 24 high-definition screens as a single display. The kicker here is that it includes a whopping 38,799 mines to avoid. Now that’s impressive.

Batman Arkham Knight I am The Night

Warner Bros. provides update on PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight.

Despite being one of my personal favorite games this year, Batman: Arkham Knight was less than favorable among the PC crowd. After significant performance issues and disappointing visuals, WB games took the game down from the Steam store all together. Removing the PC port–which was brought over by a third party company Iron Galaxy–from online stores was dramatic, but it seems the two months it’s been down has given the developer time to work out the kinks.

According to a recent post on Steam, WB games is primed to test the first patch. They revealed, “The teams have been working hard to address the issues with the PC version of the game. We are happy to confirm that we are now putting the first interim patch into testing. If all goes well, we expect to issue the patch in the next few weeks. We’ll be sure to report back in the next two weeks on how the testing is coming along.”

They also revealed the list of changes that are coming to the game:

• Reduced frame rate hitches
• Optimized system memory and VRAM usage

• Improved performance on all GPUs (requires the latest drivers)
– Min Spec AMD GPU is once again the Radeon HD 7870 2GB

• More Robust In-Game Settings, including:
o Added the ability to change settings for Max FPS to 30/60/90
o Added toggles for Motion Blur, Chromatic Aberration, and Film Grain
o Added a “High” Texture Resolution value
o Added Texture Filtering option
o Added an Adaptive V-Sync option (NVIDIA only)
o Added VRAM Usage Meter
o Added Mouse Sensitivity Slider & Mouse Smoothing Option

• Fixed low resolution texture bugs
• Fixed hitches when running on mechanical hard drives (HDD)

Mortal Kombat Movie

The cast, producers and director of Mortal Kombat talk the history of the film.

Although it might not be the best film ever, thinking about the Mortal Kombat film conjures a wave of childhood nostalgia. As a fan of the video game franchise, I remember being ecstatic to watch the movie for the first time. It’s hard to believe it debuted a whole 20 years ago. In celebration of the 20th anniversary, the stars, producers and director Paul W.S. Anderson spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the film’s history, revealing several unknown details in the process, including the fact that Cameron Diaz was almost Sonya Blade–until she broke her wrist training for the part. Find out what else they said in our full post.

Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption Sells 14 Million units.

On top of being tied to the successful Grand Theft Auto franchise, the Rockstar name is also associated with the highly popular western-themed Red Dead Redemption–which was developed by the San Diego branch of the studio. It’s no doubt the game was successful. In fact, publisher Take-Two revealed today that the title has just surpassed a massive 14 million units sold.

This is obviously an impressive statistic for any video game title. It would make sense that this kind of accomplishment would ensure a sequel for the franchise, but we’ve yet to hear confirmation from the developer. But, it’s been rumored for quite a while now, so here’s to hoping we hear about it soon.
