Gaming Daily: Apple Patent Reveals Possible Joystick-Infused iPhone

Today has been quite a day in the world of gaming, from the announcement of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, to the closing of Club Nintendo, to the unveiling of exoskeleton suit wearing zombies in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. We cap off this news packed day of gaming news with a Pickstarter recommendation for the ages, a nice Heroes of The Storm development, and a little something for all of you iPhone users who love your mobile gaming. Get yourselves locked and loaded, folks, it’s time for another edition of Gaming Daily.

iPhone-Home-Button-1

According to Apple patent, future iPhones may come with a built-in joystick.

How much do you love your iPhone? Isn’t its simplicity and accessibility. Not to mention its clean and sleek design. Now take your iPhone, press your finger against the home button, and imagine that button as a joystick, comparable to that seen on the Nintendo 3DS. According to a recent Apple patent discovered by Forbes, the next iPhone may very well boast this exact architecture.

The patent– which dons the title “Multi-Function Input Device”– was approved by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office last week. Toggling the joystick would be as simple as pressing down on the home button, which would protrude from the phone through a spring mechanism. Once finished gaming, folks would be able to press the joystick back in and use the home button like normal. Have a look at some of the patent images to get a better idea of what may be on the way:

Either Apple is trying to offer up their own gaming solution on the hardware side of things, or their trying to channel their inner-Blackberry with this weird thumb button. Either way, if this new home button does come to fruition, it better not bend or break, or social media will have a

Pickstarter: Strafe turns heads with edgy trailer.

This one crossed my desk by way of our Managing Editor Rachel Heine, and boy is it a doozy. The folks at Pixel Titans are setting out to get funding for their gore-drenched Oculus Rift first-person shooter Strafe. The game sounds like the name of any generic fps title, but what wins it for the game is the crazy over-the-top trailer. Check it out for yourself below:

Yeap, that just happened. At this current time, Strafe is sitting at $20,791 of the $185,096 in pledging that they’re looking for. I’m pretty sure the trailer will get many to turn their heads, but so far, the game doesn’t look like anything we haven’t seen from any other FPS, so let us hope that the humor infused in this trailer is on display during actual gameplay.
