GAME OF THRONES Will Have a Really Short Season 8, and More TV News

I know. It’s Monday. I’m here to help distract you from that fact with a pile of television news. Today’s TV-Cap has some Game of Thrones intel for the remaining seasons, a premiere date for season two of Preacher, a Star Wars Rebels trailer featuring Maul vs. Obi-Wan, and more.

The End Is Nigh. The biggest takeaway from Game of Thrones’ visit to SXSW this weekend? A confirmation that season eight will run only six episodes. That means we have 13 episodes of the epic series remaining. It’s going to go fast. Co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss also mentioned Ed Sheeran will be coming to the show for an appearance in season seven. Read about these details and more here at Nerdist.

June Weirdness. AMC has announced the premiere date for season two of Preacher. The twisting and inventive series based on the comic of the same name will return on June 19. Jesse Custer and pals are getting on the road to find god and antics and lots of bloodshed will ensue. Some first look photos show what looks like a familiar scene from the comics with the Saint of Killers. I’m ready. Drop down to the gallery below to see more photos from season two of Preacher. No End Yet. The world might be ending on season four of The 100, but it’s going to keep spinning–by that I mean The CW has renewed The 100 for season five. [IGN]

Throw Back. If you used to be a fan of Roseanne, then you’ll be tickled to see The Talk had John Goodman and Sara Gilbert return to the roles of Dan and Darlene Conner for the first time after 20 years. Darlene breaks silence about a big secret. [Nerdist]

Casting Notes. I have a couple of casting tidbits to share with you today:

  • First up: Christine Adams has been cast as Lynn, Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning’s ex-wife, in The CW’s Black Lightning. [CBR]
  • In the realm of fairy tales, Once Upon a Time might be trying for a reboot of sorts for season seven. Deadline reports this would mean focusing on four main characters, so right now Jennifer Morrison (Emma), Lana Parrilla (Regina), Robert Carlyle (Mr. Gold), and Colin O’Donoghue (Hook) are in talks for future contracts. Deals for other members of the original cast are up at the end of the current season.

Finale Memories. Buffy the Vampire Slayer celebrated its 20th anniversary last Friday, and Jessica honored the special occasion by ranking every season finale. Read the list here at Nerdist.

Meet Some Mutants. You know how we’ve been talking about Fox’s untitled X-Men pilot from Matt Nix and Bryan Singer? It has a working title! Right now it’s being called Gifted. And the cast has gathered for a table read in the above photo from X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner. You’ll see everyone who’s been announced, plus Joseph Morgan who was filling in. [TVLine]

Saying Goodbye. The Vampire Diaries came to an end after eight seasons on Friday. The dramatic show with countless romances, curses, and doppelgängers had its ups and downs, and Keisha remembers them in this farewell here at Nerdist. If you watched the series finale and are curious about the future of some characters, showrunner Julie Plec tells The Hollywood Reporter about another possible spinoff.

What Will They Sing? Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner are on board for an episode of Carpool Karaoke: The Series. They dropped the news while at SXSW, and I can’t wait to hear what they’ll be crooning. Maybe they’ll sing “Rains of Castamere?” [Deadline]

The End? After years of longing for revenge against Obi-Wan Kenobi, Maul is going to take advantage of another opportunity to go after his old foe. The next installment of Star Wars Rebels, “Twin Suns,” has Maul going to Tatooine. The above trailer gives me chills. Head this way to read about my hopes for the duel.

RPG Time. Steven Universe is taking the jump into console gaming with a roleplaying game called Save the Light. It will be available for the PlayStation 4 later in 2017, and though details about what the game will include are slim, we have some information here at Nerdist.

Recap Time. I have a couple of TV recaps from the weekend for you to check out: Star Wars Rebels and The Walking Dead.

Are you excited about the upcoming road trip in Preacher? Head to the comments and tell me which sequences from the comic you hope they include.
