New GAME OF THRONES Photos Hint That This Has Been a Queen’s Game All Along

Editor’s Note: this post is dark and full of spoilers for Game of Thrones third episode, “The Queen’s Justice.”

If you didn’t hear us say as much on Monday’s latest episode of All Kings Considered on Nerdist News Talks Back: the realms of Westeros are a part of a woman’s game now. From Sansa running the show up at Winterfell, to Arya choosing to not be feral and wild, to Dany and Cersei and so much more, the ladies of Westeros are truly stepping out of the shadows of the men intent on controlling the game and making up rules all their own. And as much has been evident from “Stormborn” til now in the pre-release photos HBO sent out on Wednesday teasing the forthcoming third episode of the seventh season.

First up? Daenerys Targaryen, who is literal moments away from meeting the only other known Targaryen living, her nephew Jon Snow. Will she know or feel his Targaryen blood in him? Will the truth of his parentage finally be revealed to our favorite know-nothinger?

It seems like Varys has some thoughts as to how to play this game:

Regardless of what actually comes out of this meeting of Ice and Fire, at least we know Dany’s lookin’ stoic as ever like the best poker player to win the game:

Our interest is especially piqued by this image of two of the biggest meddlers in the game, Varys and Melisandre. Something tells us that this scene—which takes place far away from the castle (certainly not by accident)—will feature a lot more information about the reality of the wars to come and what that truly means for Jon and Dany and the Realms of Westeros:

Back in the North, one of the other queens in the game, Sansa, is serving some serious side-eye at wannabe ruler, Littlefinger. This shot makes us happier than most of the others we’ve seen with Sansa and Baelish, because we’ve been increasingly worried that Sansa would fall for his tricks and machinations once again.

But this? This feels like a direct response to that—Sansa knows what’s UP. Now when is Arya going to show up and murder this fool for us?

Check out the rest of the photos in the gallery below, and let us know what you think: will Littlefinger prevail over Sansa? Will Jon Snow and Dany get along and/or kiss?
