GAME OF THRONES and STRANGER THINGS Would Have Killer Retro Theme Songs

Listen: no one is deriding the epic theme songs of Game of Thrones and Stranger Things. They’re epic, wonderful, and deeply evocative of each series’ unique, genre-busting place in the TV pantheon. But there’s something just so right about the classic, cornball TV tunes of that ’80s/’90s bygone era. So it makes sense that the Honest Trailers gang over at Screen Junkies, in honor of their Emmy nomination, brought out the big guns to remake some of the nominated (and not-so-nominated ahem, Thrones) TV shows’ theme songs.

Thankfully, they’re very funny and very good — check ’em out here:

It’s hard to pinpoint our favorite combination here: Natasha Bedingfield doing a nostalgia-baiting take on Stranger Things, Brian McKnight emotionally devastating This is Us parody tune, or Paula Cole’s Dawson’s Creek-tinged The Handmaids’ Tale track.

Naturally, Michael Bolton’s Game of Thrones theme IS great, but House Bolton made a misstep tackling the theme for the Song of Ice and Fire because the series was not eligible for an Emmy nomination this year. You may align with the ruthless house of Roose and Ramsay, Michael, but don’t forget: those two ended up dead for their overconfidence. Don’t repeat their mistake.

Which theme song is your favorite? Do you wish they’d tackled a few of the other series that came out this year (nominated or otherwise)? (We have some suggestions: The Crown, for one, was a serious oversight.) Do you think this should be a series they do? Let us know in the comments below!
