GAME OF THRONES Goes Full ZOOLANDER in S7 Trailer (Sorta)

Listen: we’re not saying that Game of Thrones is about to go all Zoolander on us in season 7, but we’re also not not saying that, either. The long walks, the blue steel gazes—just look at all the SASS oozing out of every pore of the three heads of Thrones‘ proverbial (rather than literal) dragon as they make their way to their individual thrones. But compared to other trailers we’ve gotten in years past, this one sees a change of tone unlike any other: war has begun, winter is here, and Mugatu is the new Night King (OK, OK, sorry we’ll stop).

The scene—playing out against the musical backdrop of “Sit Down” by James—in the latest trailer for the penultimate season of HBO’s adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire ups the energy compared to the darker, more ominous teases to which we’re used. This go-around? Shit is feeling downright heroic as Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, and Cersei Lannister all saunter towards their seats at the metaphorical war table. With Jon in Winterfell, Dany in Dragonstone, and Cersei holed up in the Red Keep, there’s little mystery as to what the season’s going to be all about: the war for power across Westeros.

But not without a hint of the real war to come: that against the White Walkers and the Night King. ♫It’s gettin’ cold in here, so put on all your clothes!♫

We also did a mini-breakdown of the thing, which you can check out here:

Now, who else is hoping they’ve cast Billy Zane as an Archmaester in Oldtown, scheming for control over Cersei’s shoulder pad collection? Let us know in the comments below.
