GAME OF THRONES’ Biggest Question May Get an Answer in Season 7

Editor’s Note: this post contains potential spoilers for season 7, dusted with a heavy dose of speculation (and more than a bit of rampant glee)—don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Alright, Game of Thrones fans: our time pondering the greatest question of the ages may soon come to a close. After literal years of speculation, it seems a sighting in Belfast (where Game of Thrones films most of its interiors) may finally clue us into the answer of the national nightmare for the ages. Are you sure you want to know? You ready?

OK. So. Apparently…

JOE DEMPSIE, A.K.A. GENDRY, WAS SPOTTED GETTING OFF A PLANE IN BELFAST.

Are you breathing? Because we AREN’T.

According to the Archmaesters of all things Thronesian, Watchers on the Wall,  Dempsie was spotted in town even though he apparently has no other projects going on that would require him to be there.

Which. Hooo. OK. We’re trying to be cool here but this? This is everything we’ve been waiting for. If you’ll remember, when we went to the premiere of season 6, it was the question we asked everyone involved with the show on the red carpet:

So…are you saying we might get an answer, Benioff and Weiss? Will the mysterious location of everyone’s favorite Baratheon Bastard finally be known? And, if so, where will we see him? Given the location of Dragonstone (from whence he left thanks to the help of Ser Davos), our money is on Dorne—probably Sunspear. Of course the smartest option would’ve been to go to Pentos or just very, very far away from Westeros. Naturally, we’d be over the moon if he ended up in Oldtown, but that’s just because we’re obsessed with Oldtown.

But what do you think? Are you excited at the prospect of a Gendry return? Let us know in the comments below.
