GAME OF THRONES S6 is Going to Be Majorly Impacted By Jon Snow’s Fate

Hi, everyone! There are some sizable spoilers about Game of Thrones and the fate of Jon Snow/his season six trajectory in this post, so stay away if you’re phobic.

Hold onto your butts, folks, because if you thought this season would be all recuperation from being dead for Jon Snow—think again. Because in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Harington and Co. set the scene for a major season chockablock with Snow (and not just because winter is coming).

For fans of the series, the resurrection of Jon Snow is, perhaps, one of the worst-kept secrets in television. We all pretty much knew he was coming back, as did most of the actors (despite Harington’s attempts to convince them otherwise). Like Gwendoline Christie, and Liam Cunningham, who, according to Harington, “told me to f—k off from the start.”

“At first I thought I would find it fun,” explained Harington. “This will be a fun game. But I had to lie to a lot of close friend and cast members and crew. I don’t like lying. The longer it went, the more I felt like I was betraying them.”

And it all sounds horrible. On his last day of shooting season five—when he was stabbed to death—David Nutter, the director of the episode (who had no idea what was really going on), read the Night’s Watch’s words to the actors mutinying against Jon Snow, “before they plunged their knives into their Lord Commander’s chest.”

Calling it one of the worst days he’s ever had on the series, Harington noted, “I had to do a fake goodbye speech, it was awful. It was like being at my own funeral.”

But now that we all know the truth? Well—everything’s about to change.

“You are back next season. You are alive. Melisandre brings you back. And you’ve got a shitload to do next season. You’re going to be doing a lot,” Harington recalled showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss explaining to him.

Elsewhere, executive producer Bryan Cogman confirmed this increase in screen time for Harington, adding that, “Storywise we had a lot of pressing action that takes place with Jon Snow this season.” The article goes on to say that Jon Snow’s role this season is “huge, with more shooting days than ever before.”

The EW story also adds that, “the Jon Snow who wakes up has changed dramatically.” In episode three, when asked by Melisandre, “What do you see?” the actor reportedly replies, “Nothing, there was nothing at all.”

Explained Harington, “He realizes something about his life now: he has to live it, because that’s all there is. He’s been over the line and there’s nothing there. And that changes him. It literally puts the fear of God into him. He doesn’t want to die ever again, but if he does, he doesn’t want to be brought back.”

And lest you leave this article less-than-itchy to see where Snow’s story goes, the actor also stated that, “It’s the biggest season for him so far. There’s one episode this season which is Jon’s story, that’s the most epic episode we’ve done.”

As for what we think this means for Jon Snow, well: All signs seem to point to his being at least one of the three dragon-helmers-to-be alongside Dany and—we hope—Tyrion Lannister, who we still believe is another secret Targaryen.

And given the photos we’ve seen of Jon Snow on set at the battle of the North, his time at The Wall feels limited. Though that’s not to say he’ll stay south of it for long. With the Night’s King en route, it’s only a matter of time before he and Snow—who exchanged quite the curious glance during “Hardhome” last season—have to battle once more.
