Last night, Peter Dinklage made his hosting debut (and second appearance overall) on Saturday Night Light. Of course, the Game of Thrones references were expected. Dinklage even acknowledged this inevitability in his opening monologue, when he jokingly professed to not reading any part of the GoT scripts that didn’t involve his character, Tyrion Lannister.
The biggest Game of Thrones parody of the night came in the mock GoT season six preview, in which Dinklage played himself alongside Kate McKinnonâs Emilia Clarke/Daenerys Targaryen. The two contended with the motion-capture actor (Bobby Moynihan) tasked with portraying Drogon, the largest of Daenerys’ dragons. Unfortunately for them, mo-cap Moynihan kept trying to steal their spotlight.
Moynihan also appeared in the opening monologue as author George R.R. Martin, the man behind the A Song of Ice and Fire novels that inspired the HBO series. For the purposes of this skit, Martin contributed some jokes to Dinklage’s monologue.
Elsewhere in the show, Dinklage teamed up with Leslie Jones for a spoof of the reality show Naked and Afraid: Celebrity Edition. Let’s be honest here: this is probably something that Discovery Channel will actually try at some point. And even in this skit, Dinklage couldn’t escape the Game of Thrones references!
What did you think about Dinklage’s first time as the guest host of Saturday Night Live? And which Game of Thrones cast member would you like to see as the next guest host of SNL? Let us know in the comment section below!
