GAME OF THRONES Photos from “The Door” are Definitely Lying To Us

Warning, Game of Thrones fans: this post is dark and full of potential/minor spoilers for episode five, “The Door.” Do not read on if you’re afraid of that sort of thing!

Don’t lie to us, Game of Thrones, we know you’re hiding something major in these photos. There are hints here to something major, aren’t there? Because episode five, “The Door,” marks the halfway point for season six, which means we’re in dire need of something super door-buster-y to go down somewhere in Westeros (after all, we got our major Essos bit of business when Dany burned it all to the ground last Sunday). And though these images are playing a very demure game, we know better — so let’s break ’em all down, shall we?

First up? The Essos images: we’ve got Arya getting a talkin’ to from Jaqen H’ghar in the Hall of Faces. Now, while this could simply be more of a A Girl’s training, given the look on Arya’s face, we’re inclined to think she’s learning some major secrets. Could “the door” in question be inside the House of Black and White? Could it hold the keys to all the religions of the Realm? Because we kinda/sorta believe they’re actually all connected in some way — and the Faceless Men play into that theory of ours, big time. [Also: does anyone else think that face at the bottom left (second in from the end) looks a HECK of a lot like Varys? Cuz, uh…we do.]

Next up? Meereen, where Tyrion and Varys are slated to meet a new Red Priestess, Kinvara. Given the Red Priest we saw preaching the word of Dany in the season premiere — and what we know about their magic thanks to Melisandre and Thoros of Myr — we’re very anxious to know what this lady has to say: could more of the secrets of R’hllor be revealed during this scene? Or are they simply setting up an epic battle between the perceived Prince(s) That Was Promised, aka Jon Snow and Dany? Hmmm! (For what it’s worth, our money’s on the latter.)

The third picture on the Essosian side of things is a simple one: Dany and Daario out afield following her epic takedown of the Temple of the Dosh Khaleen. Now that all of Vaes Dothrak is seemingly on her side, where is Dany in this photo and what is she going to do with all that power? Given that the image shows both her and Daario, my money’s on political/Westerosi travel scheming—because we all know Naharis wants in on that sweet, sweet rule of hers. (Which is to say: we don’t trust him.)

Heading North to The Wall and Beyond, another image of Brienne and Sansa at Castle Black hints at further planning for the Battle for the North that’s clearly going down fairly soon this season. (Though we wonder what mission they’re sending her on. To rescue Rickon Stark, perhaps? Or something far more dangerous that forces her to team up with Tormund because PLEASE?) There’s also a shot of Jon Snow being his Jon Snow-iest, and that epic shot of Bran with the Night’s King — something we know from the trailer is going to be epic, incredible, and eye-opening to how the past and the future work in Westeros. In fact, if we were a betting lady, we’d assume “The Door” in question is actually the weirwood tree door of the Nightfort. But that’s a conversation for another day (aka Sunday during my recap).

The most curious image though is, perhaps, the shot of Littlefinger and Sansa. Why is he there? How did he make it all the way to The Wall from last episode til now? And if so, why is he there? What would send him so far North? We think it has something to do with the Tully’s. Why? Well first, all of these photos are extremes: extreme north, extreme south, and extremely focused on Jon Snow and Dany’s storylines. Which leads us to believe that there’s a heck of a lot they’re not showing us about what’s going to happen in this episode. Because while the synopsis for the episode — “Tyrion seeks a strange ally. Bran learns a great deal. Brienne goes on a mission. Arya is given a chance to prove herself.” — focuses on the characters we see in these images, Thrones has a history of doing this sort of bait-and-switch. And given that whole shady “joining the fray” comment Littlefinger uttered last season, we have a feeling that there’s something seriously amiss about to go down in that neck of the Riverlands.

Check out the images in the gallery below and see for yourself, though. And let us know what you think in the comments!
