Remember when the Game of Thrones intro was reimagined with Skyrim? Yeah, it was a fantasy nerdâs dream come true and I honestly didnât think anything could out-nerd that. That is, until now.
Feast your eyes (and ears) on a chiptune version of the Game of Thrones intro set to Super Mario World, thanks to YouTube member NicksplosionFX. Itâs absolutely brilliant.
Dun, dun, bada, dun, dun along to the video below:
Not only does the video reimagine the theme song 8-bit by 8-bit, the Super Mario reimagining lines up perfectly with Game of Thronesâ opening sequence. In fact, you can actually watch a side-by-side comparison of the original and the chiptuned version here that will blow your mind. My favorite bits are the reimagining of Winterfellâs famous weirwood tree and the Donkey Kong and Yoshi images that appear on the swords.

HT: Game Informer
Not nearly as good as the Skyrim one.
Maybe not a game, but seeing Middle Earth? Or has that already been done?
If any game would’ve started like this, I would’ve been instantly hooked.
cool idea, but as a nerd and longtime gamer, I hate how people get 8-bit mixed up with 16-bit in their internet memes. The SNES had much better sound capabilities than this.
Agreed. This was my pet peeve as well.
Ahhh You’re right. You just ruined this for me.
thank you! was gonna say the same thing!
It says ‘8 bitby8 bit’ referringto 16bit
