Well, folks, this post is dark and full of spoilers so if you don’t want to know anything about what’s potentially going down on Game of Thrones‘ sixth season. Don’t say we didn’t warn ya, ya nincompoops, mmkay? Now that that’s settled: hey look! The hottest Tarly to come outta Horn Hill has been cast for the upcoming installment of HBO’s fantasy behemoth. No, we don’t mean Samwellâhe’s been on the series for a long time now, y’allâbut rather his little brother Dickon. And he’s going to be played by none other than Harry Potter (Cormac McLaggen!) and UnREAL star, Freddie Stroma.
Little brother of Samwell, Dickon Tarly is the second eldest brother and heir to House Tarly’s fortunes after Randyll Tarlyâthat mean muggin’ ol’ so-and-so super-soldier previously alleged to House Baratheonâousted his oldest. If you’d forgotten the details, allow us to present you with the basic facts: Randyll Tarly is a brutal man and, upon realizing his eldest was not the gruff master-fighter he dreamed his heir would be, he gave Sam the ultimatum of heading to The Wall lest he die a brutal death in a “hunting accident” of his father’s design. Woof.
Dickon has yet to make an appearance in the books but has been mentioned before by Sam in recounts of his life before the Night’s Watch. We do know that he’s been wed, at the ripe old age of 13, to an heir of House Maidenpool. Given that this is the TV iteration we’re talking about, though, don’t expect any of those facts to necessarily hold trueâespecially the 13-year-old bit because 1.) ew, and 2.) Stroma is 28 years old in real life, a full year older than John Bradley who plays his older brother Samwell.
So, for everyone keeping score at home, here’s what we know so far about season six castings: Ian McShane has a mystery role, Max Von Sydow is the new Three-Eyed Raven, a possible Euron Greyjoy, and we may be getting a particular lady with a stony disposition at long last:
Looking forward to deeper dives into House Tarly and Greyjoy this season? Let’s hear about it in the comments!
