Gallery: Gorgeous Concept Art from X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST!

Admit it, Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past was — with the exception of Guardians of the Galaxy — this summer’s biggest surprise. Sure, most of us expected Captain America: The Winter Soldier to be great. Ditto Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. But after entries like X-Men: The Last Stand and Wolverine: Origins, was there an X-fan among us who dared hope the series would provide another film with the original X-Men cast to rival X2 back in 2003? That Days of Future Past not only proved as satisfying as the series’ best, but, in the opinion of many, perhaps even more so, was cause for fans everywhere to rejoice. Unsurprisingly, the film’s pre-production art by Mathieu Duchesne — which has just been unveiled on Film Sketchr — is just as gorgeous as what wound up on screen.

Duchesne — who also worked on Source Code and White House Down, as well as TV’s Helix — brought Days of Future Past‘s many locations to gorgeous painterly life. In the images below, you can feast your eyes on the artist’s renderings of the White House, Xavier’s School, the Sentinels, Cerebro, and the Buddhist temple in which the team has its final battle against Bolivar Trask’s giant mutant-hunting robots.

Sadly, while there’s been a deluxe production art book released for every recent Marvel Studios film from Iron Man to Guardians of the Galaxy, we’ve seen no such book devoted to X-Men: Days of Future Past. Here’s hoping the Powers That Be see fit to publish one before X-Men: Apocalypse comes our way May 27, 2016.
