FX Renews AMERICAN HORROR STORY for Sixth Season

After only four episodes of its current season, FX has officially ordered a sixth season of American Horror Story to premiere in 2016. Series co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are both expected to return.

American Horror Story premiered on FX in 2011, and it is widely credited with reviving the TV anthology format with a season-long storyline that resets every year with new characters and new stories. In addition to being FX’s most watched original series, American Horror Story has also won 13 Emmy Awards out of 71 nominations.

“With the sixth installment coming next year, American Horror Story has unquestionably joined the ranks of television’s landmark series,” said FX CEO John Landgraf in a brief statement with the announcement. “This is even more remarkable because Ryan and co-creator Brad Falchuk tear up the playbook every year, challenging the entire creative team to come up with something even more spectacular, frightful and entertaining. You could not ask more of an artist, their team or a series and with every new installment they deliver.”

While the series dramatically changes each season, several American Horror Story performers have returned for multiple seasons as different characters each time. The current incarnation of the show, American Horror Story: Hotel is headlined by Lady Gaga, with Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Wes Bentley, Matt Bomer, Chloë Sevigny, Denis O’Hare, Cheyenne Jackson, Evan Peters, and Finn Wittrock co-starring in the series. It’s not currently known if Lady Gaga will return for another season, or which actors will be back next year.

American Horror Story Season 6 will premiere in Fall 2016. American Horror Story: Hotel continues tomorrow night on FX.
