FX Orders New Comedy Series from Donald Glover

My whole brain is crying with excitement over this news: FX has ordered a new comedy series created by and starring actor/musician Donald Glover.

Titled Atlanta, the show will be about two cousins working their way up the city’s rap scene. FX announced it has ordered a 10-episode first season of the half-hour comedy.

Glover, a.k.a. rapper Childish Gambino, seems to have created the perfect lead character for him to play, allowing himself to use both his prolific comedic chops and his musical abilities. While most famous for playing Troy on Community, Glover was also a writer for 30 Rock, and as Childish Gambino he’s been nominated twice for a Grammy award. If this new character can also fix air conditioners he’ll truly be maximizing everything he is good at.

Glover will also serve as one of the executive producers for the series, and while the show has its debut next year, no premiere date has been set yet.

The show will also star Brian Tyree Henry (The Knick, Boardwalk Empire), Lakeith Lee Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton, Selma), and Zazie Beetz (Applesauce).

Reports say Glover is currently working on his third studio album without a release date either, so 2016 could end up being a very prolific year for the dual-threat performer.

Who else would you like to see involved in this new series? Obviously we will all root for an appearance from Levar Burton, but who else would make for a great addition? Tell us your best nominees in the comments below.
