Good news, everyone! We found an all new, totally amazing way to enjoy the classic Back to the Future scene where Marty McFly first introduces himself to Doc Brown in 1955. We got Futurama voice actor Billy West to recreate the meeting as his characters Professor Farnsworth and Phillip J. Fry.
It’s hard to imagine someone besides Michael J. Fox–whose name we just now realize is a lot like Phillip J. Fry!–as Marty (sorry Eric Stoltz), or anyone other than Christopher Lloyd as the Doc, but great Scott does this this work perfectly.
This is a clip from one of our newest Alpha shows, Talkin’ Toons, hosted by (among many cartoon characters you know and love) the voice of Yakko Warner, Animaniacs‘ Rob Paulsen. We’re not saying you are missing out if you are not a member of our Alpha community, but only because after watching this clip we don’t need to tell you that, you can see it for yourself. Just like when Paulsen sang an updated version of “Yakko’s World” for us, or when he taught us how to speak like Pinky and the Brain.
As for this crossover it is genuinely incredible to see and hear West bring these characters to life, especially the fired up, angry Professor Farnsworth. Not to mention he makes for a pretty good replacement for Doc Brown, especially in that scene. You can easily see the Professor wearing that big crazy “mind reading” headgear.
And you know, Fry could really have used Doc Brown’s time machine to get back to the 21st century.
What other famous pop culture scenes would you like to hear West recreate as his Futurama characters? Give voice to your best suggestions by telling us all about them in the comments section below.
