Funko is Making Some E.T. Figures to Phone Home About

E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial was, for years, the highest-grossing movie of all time—and one of the most merchandised, too. From the obvious tie-ins with Reese’s Pieces and Speak & Spell to PVCs, toy cars, and even a Neil Diamond song, it might have seemed to an outsider like no avenue was left unexplored.

Except to me. Eight year-old me wanted E.T. action figures that were in scale with Star Wars figures. It’s not that there wasn’t an articulated E.T. action figure; it’s that the one I had was gigantic compared to Luke Skywalker. But now Funko—and adult me—can remedy this childhood gap.

E.T. is joining the Reaction line of retro figures that are still reasonably accurate to the actors’ likeness, as opposed to more generic ones for movies that don’t include those rights. They are Star Wars-scaled, so you can also use E.T. in your Phantom Menace Senate dioramas, to recreate the cameo made by his species.

In addition to the three-pack featuring Elliott and Gertie, Entetainment Earth will have an exclusive single-carded E.T. with glow-in-the-dark finger and heart, along with a special potted plant accessory. One can only assume that if these sell well, a bicycle set should be next. Or a two-pack of sick E.T. and scary spaceman. Or E.T. in drag. Heck, let’s get really meta and have a set of E.T. and Elliott playing with Star Wars figures [never gonna happen because Disney, but wouldn’t it be amazing?]. Bring ’em on, Funko. I’ll be right here…with my money. That you can shut up and take.

What Steven Spielbeg movie should Funko tackle next? Anyone for Close Encounters? Let me know in comments.
