FROZEN’s Josh Gad Joins Disney’s Live-Action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST as LeFou

In a case of absolutely perfect casting, actor Josh Gad, best know for voicing Olaf the snowman in Frozen, as well as his Tony nominated role as Elder Cunningham in Broadway’s The Book of Mormon, will be coming back to the House of Mouse for Disney’s live-action retelling of Beauty and the Beast as LeFou, who you might remember as the villain Gaston’s loyal underling and #1 fan.

The big screen adaptation of Beauty and the Beast is being directed by Dreamgirls’ Bill Condon, and also stars Emma Watson as Belle, Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens as The Beast, and Luke Evans as Gaston. So far, Josh Gad is the first American actor signed on for the movie, although certain major parts like Belle’s father have yet to be cast, not to mention the entire transformed staff of servants in the Beast’s castle. Unlike recent live-action adaptations of classic Disney animated movies, it looks like Beauty and the Beast will retain the original film’s iconic musical score.

Josh Gad also returns as the voice of Olaf for Frozen Forever, an animated mini-sequel to last year’s mega-hit, which plays in front of Disney’s new live-action Cinderella, which opens this week. Although not officially announced yet, you can also bet he’ll return as Olaf for the proper full length sequel to Frozen, which was just announced. Gad is also starring, alongside Adam Sandler and Peter Dinklage, in Sony’s upcoming movie Pixels, about video game experts who are recruited by the military to fight 1980s-era video game characters who’ve attacked New York.
