See the FROZEN Musical Cast in Costume

If you haven’t yet let Frozen go, there’s good news for you: the Broadway musical based on the Disney phenomenon is beginning to take shape. This week, cast photos of the show’s principal players have hit the Internet (via EW), and the costuming is as pitch perfect as Kristen Bell and Santino Fontana’s criminally underrated duet “Love Is an Open Door.”

Though we haven’t yet gotten a glimpse of Elsa’s iconic second act dress that appears mid-“Let It Go,” as audiences will at the Denver premiere on Aug. 17, the first act looks are still impressive. Elsa (Caissie Levy), Anna (Patti Murin), and Hans (John Riddle) are decked out in their coronation clothes, while Kristoff (Jelani Alladin) sports the costume he wears throughout most of the movie. A limited number of lucky audiences in Denver at the Buell Theater will get the chance to see the show through the 1st of October, but the show won’t hit Broadway till February 18 of next year.

Director Michael Grandage is no stranger to high-profile productions. A Tony and Drama Desk winner (for directing Red in 2010), his last brush with a Broadway musical was the Evita revival in 2012. Given her theater history, Caissie Levy is a perfect fit for Elsa; she played Maureen in the U.S. tour of Rent in 2002 and Elphaba in the 2008 L.A. production of Wicked, both roles Idina Menzel, Elsa herself, originated. Murin, Riddle, and Alladin have also taken to the Broadway stage in prominent shows ranging from Ragtime to The Wild Party. We won’t know how awesome Frozen is live till after tonight, but considering the continued involvement of the original producers and the care the cast and crew seem to be taking to reproduce a truly magical movie, we don’t anticipate being too disappointed (except in what will certainly be exorbitantly high ticket prices).
