From The Tonight Show: ‘Rapper’s Delight’ by Brian Williams Featuring Lester Holt

I think we can all agree that The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has been knocking it out of the park in each of its first three episodes, but as great as each of his bits has been, perhaps the most impressive was a perfectly-edited, word-for-word rendition of the first few versus of the Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight.” Some hard-working soul combed through a year’s worth of NBC Nightly News to get anchor Brian Williams saying everything that needs to be said in the song; and if Williams assaying the part of Wonder Mike wasn’t enough, they also tossed to Lester Holt for a bit from Bad Bank Hank. When the two rap together, it becomes a thing of pure, unadulterated wonderment.

Jimmy hasn’t changed his format much from Late Night, and that’s exactly what we wanted. Videos from that program went viral on a regular basis, and it’s nice to see the same thing happening on the network’s, and late night television’s flagship show.

I believe that’s “Big Bank Hank,” actually.

That was astonishingly well done, and I wanted it to go on for the whole extended remix version’s worth of verses!
