FROM DUSK TILL DAWN: THE SERIES Trailer Released, Series To Premiere at SXSW

Believe it or not, it’s been almost 20 years since George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino starred as The Gecko Brothers in the Robert Rodriguez cult favorite From Dusk Till Dawn. Now, the film has been reimagined into a television series on Rodriguez’s own El Rey network, with Rodriguez as Executive Producer and director of the first episode. Today, we have the debut of the series trailer, as well as the announcement that the show will premiere this March at Austin’s South By Southwest Film Festival. After SXSW, the show will debut Tuesday, March 11th at 9e/p.

D.J. Cotrona, Zane Holtz, Jesse Garcia, Eiza González, Wilmer Valderrama, Adrianne Palicki, Jake Busey, Don Johnson and Robert Patrick star, while Emmy-winning special effects wizard Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) oversees make-up effects for the series.

The synopsis, from the press release: “Based on the thrill-ride film, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series is a supernatural crime saga centered around bank robber, Seth Gecko (Cotrona) and his violent, unpredictable brother, Richard “Richie” Gecko (Holtz), who are wanted by the FBI and Texas Rangers Earl McGraw (Johnson) and Freddie Gonzalez (Garcia) after a bank heist leaves several people dead. While on the run to Mexico, Seth and Richie encounter former pastor Jacob Fuller (Patrick) and his family, whom they take hostage.  Using the family RV to cross the border, chaos ensues when the group detours to a strip club that is populated by vampires.  They are forced to fight until dawn in order to get out alive. The series deepens the tone and expands the storyline of the film, adds new characters and backstories, and explores the Mesoamerican mythology behind the creatures inside the club.”

Anybody else notice the big kahuna burger restaurant from pulp fiction ?

  2. Jacka says:

@ tuga They kept things mostly pretty vampire free in the trailer. Perhaps they’ve kept a similar tone to the original film where things only get silly once the fighting starts, although I’m not sure how thay’d keep that up over an entire TV series.

  3. tuga says:

@CC I think the problem is that it seems to be taking itself way too seriously. Not even a hint of campiness or fun in that trailer.

  4. CC says:

    Ugh, that doesn’t look good.

Oh man, I hope this works out! I LOVED that movie. George Clooney’s perfomance as Seth Gecko is gonna be a tough role to fill! It was so awesome!
