Frank Marshall Says INDIANA JONES 5 Will Be a Continuation of THE CRYSTAL SKULL

Disney and Lucasfilm’s new Indiana Jones movie is getting closer and closer to becoming a reality! Frank Marshall has produced every Indy film to date—so he knows a thing or two about the movies—meaning it’s probably no surprise he dropped some pretty serious intel about Indiana Jones 5 at CinemaCon. Details that have some fans worried about the state of the sequel. So we’re deciphering the clues on today’s Nerdist News!

Nerdist News host and world famous archaeologist Jessica Chobot walks us through Marshall’s comments and explains why it may not be a bad thing if Indy 5 picks up some threads from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Keep in mind, what Marshall said was that the new movie was a “continuation” of the story—he did NOT say it was a direct sequel. He probably meant that it wouldn’t retcon the events of the previous film…as much as some might like to see that happen!

We know what you’re really worried about is Mutt Williams darkening our screens again. Heck, even Shia LaBeouf doesn’t seem to like the character he portrayed in Crystal Skull. But who knows if Shia would even want to come back to the franchise after that experience?

The most intriguing comment from Marshall, though, was another confirmation that Harrison Ford—and only Harrison Ford—will be playing Indiana Jones. We’re sorry to see all of those Chris Pratt rumors go down in flames again. We think he’d be a great Indy! Or hey…why not recast Mutt with Pratt and bring the series into the swinging ‘70s. There’s also nothing stopping Mutt from reinventing himself for the new film and even giving himself a more appropriate nickname. After all, we named the dog Indiana! Surely Henry Jones III can do better than “Mutt.”
