Francis Ford Coppola Sits In THE DIRECTOR’S CHAIR with Robert Rodriguez

Recently we brought you a look at original poster art created by artist Joshua Budich for the Francis Ford Coppola episode of The Director’s Chair, the El Rey Network interview show hosted by network co-founder and director Robert Rodriguez.

Tomorrow night The Director’s Chair features a candid and honest interview with Academy Award winning director Coppola, a long time friend of Rodriguez, who interviews the iconic filmmaker about some of his best known classics (The Godfather, The Godfather: Part II, Apocalypse Now) as well as some additional fan favorites like The Outsiders, Rumble Fish (which he describes to Rodriguez as “an art film for kids”) and Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

It’s an exceptional and frank episode of the series with Coppola being honest and direct about the trials and tribulations of his experimental career discussing the history as well as the future of filmmaking and the nature of artists. As the director himself puts it, “The things they fire you for when you are young are the same things that they give you lifetime achievement awards for when you are old.”

In addition to the access that the conversation itself brings to light, Coppola shared with the series clips of him rehearsing and directing some of the most acclaimed actors of the last 100 years and answered questions from fellow directors and fans like Frank Darabont and Jon Favreau. Much like a Francis Ford Coppola production, it’s an episode filled with “family, food and film,” as Rodriguez explains perfectly.

The Director’s Chair with Robert Rodriguez and Francis Ford Coppola airs Monday, March 2 at 8PM ET/ 8:30PM PT followed by Coppola’s Academy Award nominated classic The Conversation. To find El Rey Network in your area click here!

This is such a great show. Like Inside the Actor’s Studio for filmmakers. El Rey doesn’t have a lot of original programming, but this show is great. Just wish they would run them more often.
