Frameworks Embrace the Outcast in Video for “Purge” (Premiere)

Frameworks are an emotional band. They play a brand of hardcore that is filled with a sense of earnest heart, something raw and true. We’ve been fans of theirs ever since we got our hands on their fantastic album Loom a few years ago. Then, earlier this year, they signed with our pals at Deathwish Inc. and we became even bigger fans. Frameworks and Deathwish Inc. together? Two things we love in one place? This is a real peanut butter and chocolate scenario.

It’s that love that makes us so dang proud to premiere the first video from their new album, Smother. “Purge” is the second song we’ve heard off of the record, and it’s got us pretty pumped. The video for the song is a trip straight to Bummer Town, showcasing the feelings of being ignored, forgotten, and unwanted. “‘Purge’ was written about family members who weren’t around when they should have been and now that I or the band have something they consider deemable of boasting, credit is taken where credit will never be due,” singer Luke Pate told us. The video that accompanies the song certainly captures that feeling. Watching it is like watching a memory; fragmented, stale, and unsettling. It’s the saddest home movie you’ve ever seen.

Smother by Frameworks

It’s that unsettling feeling that Frameworks does so well. There’s no big punch or reveal in the video; it’s not melodramatic or over the top. Instead, the video for “Purge” is a showcase for utter indifference, a feeling that is not east to capture. The song and its visuals show us the pain in being left behind, pushed aside, and discarded. There’s a sense of loneliness and isolation that is very real and very painful.

Smother is set to be released on CD, LP and digital formats on July 8, 2016. You can and should pre-order it now from the Deathwish Inc. store, so get on that right away. Frameworks are a band to watch, few hardcore (or post-hardcore) acts are playing with such a raw fury. These guys wear their hearts on their sleeves, and we could not be more excited for their new album.
