Fox’s GAMBIT Film Puts Rupert Wyatt in Director’s Chair

A healthy deal of the X-Men news coming from 20th Century Fox in the past months has dealt with the forthcoming X-Men Apocalypse or the news that Seinfeld was a deciding factor in Hugh Jackman hanging up his claws soon. However, there is another X-Men movie that has been in the works for a while: the Gambit film starring Channing Tatum as everyone’s favorite mutant cajun. Not much has been revealed about the story or how it will inform the other films that are coming, but what we do know is that Entertainment Weekly has reported that Rupert Wyatt has closed a deal to direct the film. If that name does not ring a bell, Wyatt directed last year’s Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes for Fox, as well as the Mark Wahlberg thriller, The Gambler.

Wyatt is one of several directors that Fox has been eyeing to get behind the camera for the story of one of our favorite charismatic, mutant thief. Other directors that were considered include Margin Call’s J.C. Chandor and The Raid’s Gareth Evans. Tatum is producing as well as starring, and fellow producers include Reid Carolin, Lauren Schuler Donner, and Simon Kinberg. The movie is slated for a release on October 7 in 2016.

Are you excited to see a different version of Gambit on film? Think Wyatt will be able to do the job right? Let us know in the comments below.
