Fox Removes GAMBIT From Its Release Date, Adds 2 Untitled Marvel Films

Twentieth Century Fox is celebrating their third straight weekend with one of their Marvel films being #1 at the box office, with Deadpool cleaning up yet again, with a staggering tally of $285 million domestic. Not only is Deadpool their highest grossing X-Men related film of all time, but it’s well on its way to outperforming every solo superhero movie not featuring Batman or Spider-Man. You know — two characters even your grandma knows. Who saw that coming?

With the success of Deadpool now behind them, Fox has done some reshuffling of their schedule in terms of their licensed Marvel properties. They’ve just announced that Gambit, starring Channing Tatum as the Cajun X-Man, won’t be making it to its October 7, 2016 date this year after all, as many have already speculated. The movie recently lost its original director Rupert Wyatt and replaced him with Doug Liman, and hasn’t even started shooting, so this move has come as a suprise to no one. Besides, with six comic book superhero movies coming out this year (seven, if one counts Ninja Turtles), Gambit would likely have gotten lost in the crowd.

In addition to taking Gambit off of its original release date, Fox has also added two other Marvel films to their schedule. One Marvel film is slated for October 6, 2017, and another for January 12, 2018. So what are these potential Marvel movies? Well, we can guess that Gambit is being moved to October 2017, that seems like a no-brainer, especially with the film getting ready to go into production soon.

As for January 2018, that almost certainly has to be the Deadpool 2. Usually, January is a dumping ground for studio films, but as the success of Deadpool in the middle of Post-Christmas-winter has shown, the old blockbuster calendar is a thing of the past. It should be noted that Fox still has an “unnamed X-Men movie” still scheduled for July 13th, 2018. While that movie could be Josh Boone’s New Mutants, again, with Deadpool making bank, I wouldn’t be surprised if that movie turns out to be X-Force, starring Ryan Reynolds once again as the Merc with the Mouth.

We should be finding out just what these movies actually are by Comic-Con time. One thing’s for sure though — none of them are going to be a sequel to Fantastic Four.

What do you think these two new Fox Marvel movies are? Let us know in the comments below.
