Fox Orders Lord and Miller’s Live-Action/Animated Hybrid SON OF ZORN

It may be fall, but Fox is already looking ahead to next season. The TV network has reportedly ordered the hybrid live-action/animated comedy, Son of Zorn straight to series for 2016. And with good reason: The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are executive producing alongside former Wilfred showrunners Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne, who will also oversee it. Wait a second: did we just find our new future favorite show?

The premise for Son of Zorn is one of the most bizarre TV setups in recent memory: Zorn (an animated character voiced by Jason Sudeikis) is a mighty warrior, returning to Earth after spending ten years fighting a war on his own mystical world, Zephyria. Once back, Zorn attempts to reenter the lives of his ex-wife, Edie (Cheryl Hines) and their son, Alan (Johnny Pemberton)—both of whom are live-action characters—as he tries to acclimate to life on Earth, and deal with all of the mundane aspects that go with it.

Fox has also released the first image of Zorn, whose physical appearance seems to be greatly influenced by the Filmation He-Man animated series from the ‘80s.

Son of Zorn

“This is utterly unique – there has literally never been a show like this. And, of course, it is very, very funny,” said Fox’s Entertainment president David Madden. “The fantastically talented duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller are yet again delivering precedent-setting television. Jason Sudeikis makes his animated character sound and feel live-action, and Cheryl, Johnny and Tim have incredible chemistry with him that crosses formats, genres and galaxies.”

For those of you unaware out there, Lord and Miller are also executive producing The Last Man on Earth for Fox in addition to developing a remake of The Greatest American Hero and the TV incarnation of the popular podcast Serial.

A premiere date for Son of Zorn has not been announced, but the early pickup means that it will have a slot on Fox’s 2016-2017 TV schedule.
