Okay, this is cool: Our friends at The Hollywood Reporter managed to reassemble four iconic television writers’ rooms to talk about what it was like to make television history. Buffy the Vampire Slayer under Joss Whedon (Jane Espenson, Arrow‘s Drew Z. Greenberg, more), The X Files under Chris Carter (Vince Gilligan! Homeland and 24‘s Howard Gordon! David Duchovny himself!), The Shield under Shawn Ryan (with, among others, The Walking Dead‘s Glen Mazzara and Adam Fierro and Sons of Anarchy‘s Kurt Sutter), and Murphy Brown under Diane English (including Mad Men‘s Tom Palmer). If you’re interested in television writing, and a lot of you are, you gotta watch this.
And then you gotta go to the THR.com website, where there’s way more, including articles and photos. You should probably just go out and buy this week’s issue, which is packed with articles about the craft of writing. Look for Damon Lindelof on the cover. Speaking of which, here’s the man himself, interviewed by THR about Star Trek Into Darkness and more:
And now that you’ve seen it, read it. There’s much more, and anyone interested in writing should be all over this one.
(And make sure you’re subscribed to the Nerdist Writers Panel, too, where you’ll hear folks like these and other top TV writers talk about their craft…)
Don’t forget to subscribe to the Nerdist Channel now, too.
That Damon Lindelof interview has a huge spoiler in it! Really wish I hand’t seen that. Very unfortunate that they even released that footage. Yes the trailer hints at that scene, but even knowing it’s in the movie isn’t as bad as seeing such an emotionally powerful like like the one we see Bones deliver. Damn.
