Former NSA Director Will Be John Oliver’s First Guest on LAST WEEK TONIGHT

Usually, the inaugural episode of a new show will feature a guest that will grab people’s attention, like Will Smith at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon or Amy Poehler at Late Night with Seth Meyers. John Oliver is going in a different direction for the premiere of his HBO show Last Week Tonight, with a guest that’s important but hardly a celebrity.

Former National Security Administration director and head of U.S. Cyber Command General Keith Alexander (Ret.) will be Oliver’s guest this Sunday on the first episode of Last Week Tonight. This choice is definitely more akin to the type of folks Oliver would interview as a correspondent on The Daily Show, and should be taken as a sign that Oliver perhaps feels like he doesn’t need to have the biggest names trending in the news for his show. So far, Last Week Tonight feels like it’s very much being done on John Oliver’s terms.
