Footage from the Canceled 100 BULLETS Video Game Resurfaces Online

Before Acclaim’s epic flameout and bankruptcy in 2004, the company had begun development on a video game adaptation of 100 Bullets, based on the Vertigo comic book series by writer Brian Azzarello and artist Eduardo Risso. While the 100 Bullets game was shown to the press a few times, it wasn’t finished before Acclaim went under.

Never-before-seen footage from the 100 Bullets video game has resurfaced, courtesy of PtoPOnline. Although the unfinished graphics for 100 Bullets look dated by modern standards, the accompanying video offers a tantalizing glimpse at what could have been.

But to really appreciate the footage, it helps to know what 100 Bullets is about. When the series began in 1999, the basic premise was simple. The enigmatic Agent Graves approached seemingly random people with a proposition to murder someone who had wronged them with a handgun and 100 untraceable bullets. Over the course of its ten-year run, 100 Bullets revealed that even that premise wasn’t quite what it appeared to be.

The 100 Bullets video game was primarily built around Cole Burns as the first playable character. Cole was one of the major supporting characters in the 100 Bullets comic. The second playable character was Snow Falls, an original creation for this game. The newly released footage includes a look at Snow’s revenge mission as she confronts the man who killed her mother.

Perhaps the most striking thing about the 100 Bullets footage is how far the developers were able to bring the game after just a few months of production. While some of the gameplay seems to have been directly lifted from Max Payne, the addition of the 100 Bullets characters and storylines could have made for an entertaining experience.

According to PtoPOnline, more footage from the 100 Bullets game may be posted in the near future.
