Florence + the Machine have suddenly gone all multimedia on us. Just a couple weeks ago, the English band shared three tracks for the upcoming Final Fantasy XV soundtrack. And today, Florence Welch and Co. announced and shared a new song contribution to Tim Burton‘s forthcoming film, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
“Wish That You Were Here,” currently streaming exclusively here, is more poignant then much of the band’s repertoire. Pizzicato’d strings oscillate with grandiose, orchestral choruses while Welch’s voice soars brilliantly above. The song will serve as the film’s end title track.
ââWish That You Were Hereâ is a song about the idea that love is a journey and a risk,â said Welch in a statement. âHaving been on tour, Iâve lived in a sort of magical time bubble, where the days almost blend together. Itâs amazing, but it comes at a cost â a cost of leaving the people you love behind for a year or two. You kind of feel like if you could sing a song into the wind, maybe the wind could take it to them in a way that you canât with a text or a call. You just want to send your love in a different way, in a way to somehow reach the unreachable.â
Her thoughts match the magic and whimsy of the film itself, which is based on Ransom Riggs’ novel of the same name. The young Jake is brought to a home for “peculiar children” that all have special powers. He soon learns that he has them, too. From the trailer, Miss Peregrin appears to be a Burtonized take on a Harry Potter/X-Men mash-up, which sounds like just about the best thing ever.
Burton’s film hits theaters on September 30, and “Wish That You Were Here” hits digital retailers tomorrow. Check out the track and let us know if you think it matches the classic Burton tenor.
