Flight Of The Conchords Will Make Their Comeback at Newport Folk Fest 2016

The return of Flight Of The Conchords has been a sort of on-again-off-again affair for the past few years, with mentions of a tour and a movie, neither of which have yet come to fruition. But now, it looks like it’s actually going to happen: It was just announced that the New Zealand comedy duo will headline the Newport Folk Fest on Friday, July 22. No, we’re not crying: It’s just been raining… on our face.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that a tour is imminent, although given the freshness of the announcement, we’re hoping that it’s not out of the question either. The last time the pair hit the road was for the Funny Or Die Oddball Festival in 2013.

Apart, Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie have done extremely well for themselves: McKenzie won himself an Oscar in 2011 for his musical contributions to The Muppets, while Clement has done more to further his film career, appearing in movies like Rio, Dinner for Schmucks, Men In Black 3, and others. Despite their individual successes, there’s still a magic that happens when they come together that they can’t replicate on their own.

By the way, Flight Of The Conchords won’t be the only reason to his up the Newport Folk Festival this year: Also confirmed for this year’s lineup are Father John Misty, Ray Lamontagne backed by a Jim James-less My Morning Jacket, and others. Still, there’s no denying that Clement and McKenzie will be the most beautiful band in the… room, and possibly on the street, depending on the street.
