All it took was six episodes for FLCL (pronounced in English as Fooly Cooly) to create a legacy for itself. The show has become a cult classic since its premiere in 2000 (and its English-language premiere in 2003), so much so that it was brought back for new episodes on Adult Swim. The first revival season, FLCL Progressive, is set to begin airing on June 2, followed by another series called FLCL Alternative in September.
Now there’s even more reason for fans of the show to get excited, especially if you’re big on its music: Adult Swim is celebrating the show’s return with a concert tour from Japanese rock band The Pillows, who provide music for the show. They’ll be playing both familiar tunes from the original run as well as new music from the episodes yet to air, which will serve as a fun preview for the revival. Get tickets here.
The Pillows will be joined by a couple of familiar faces. Opening will be Japanese all-girl rock group Noodles, who haven’t performed in the United States in eight years, and Cullen Omori, the former frontman of Smith Westerns, who has a new album coming out this year via Sub Pop.
